The JC Higgins model numbers for that particular type of bolt action shotgun go back to 583.1. They were made by High Standard and are similar to the High Standard Model 10 bolt-action shotgun. The 583.13 is mid-1950's. 583-1 to 583-12 were made by Harrington & Richardson arms Co for High Standard then partially owned By Sears 583 dose not mean High standard It means HOUSE BRAND ONLY. Who made western field 20 ga shotgun model xhn 569g?
I have and old Western Field 20 ga deer gun and it's designed just like my new Mossberg 500 12 ga. The safety on both guns are on the top and the pump action is very similar. So my guess is that Mossberg made the western field. If you have transposed letters and you meant XNH, this was the Montgomery Ward code for Nobel guns.
I could take the time to look this model number up in the cross reference, determine the actual manufacturer, then look up that manufacturer's model to see what kind of action it has, and then give a range of values. But you can just go to Walmart or a sporting goods store and find a similar utility shotgun. Figure your used gun is worth about half as much in usable condition and possibly 3/4 as much if it is in nearly-new condition.

This must be a rare bird. A few dreilings were made in the US by the Hollenbeck Gun Company (1905-1910) in Wheeling WV. Almost all the rest are from Germany. I have never heard of one being sold by Sears with the JC Higgins name. If you can post all the markings on the gun, including those under the barrels and those on the part of the receiver that are covered unless the barrels are removed, and a link to some photos, I might be able to help you ID it better.

How do you tell what year a gun was made?
If the gun has a serial number and is from an American maker (or importer such as Browning), you can date a gun via a simple google search, e.g. "Winchester serial numbers" or "Remington manufacture date". If the gun is European, it will have proof marks that may include a date (typical form "7/26" or "7 26" or similar). From time to time, there have been changes in the proofing laws in various European countries that will allow you to at least identify the general period of manufacture. This gets pretty complicated. You need to be able to discern among English, German / Ausrian, Belgian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, etc. They all have had their own systems for over 100 years. If you contact a very knowledgable dealer of fine European arms, they may be able to help you out. You can google "German proof marks" or "proof marks", etc. to get started. Many, many "house brand" guns that were manufactured for sales through Sears, or Mongomery Wards, etc. are nearly impossible to date. Not all guns have serial numbers or proof marks, so then you need to find out when the gun was in production, and when specific markings or modifications came into production. Unless you have a collectible gun, it will be hard to find anyone with that kind of detailed knowledge.
I'm not sure about the value as i have one as well and i can't get a stright answer. Most ansewers i have received are generic, it is older than me my grandfather bought it new for what he said was under $2.00, and I'm 61. Now that said it has more sentimental value than collector. I won't part with mine as i want to pass it on to my grandson. Brownells co. (515-623-5401) or the Gun Parts corp. (914-679-2417). The books i have are before computers so i don't have web site info. I have made spring for various firearms, and you probally find some one near by who works on reconditioning to help. If not in a gun shop try a small machine shop. also try emailing (Mammothinc@AOL.com)or (RemShots@remingtonsociety.com) for more info than i can hold on to, these folks are great.
