Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

Trying to find a song from Camelot that was Jacqueline Kennedy's favorite or close to it. She said it was the theme song called "Camelot." And quoted it in her interview with Theodore White shortly after the death of her husband, saying her favorite lines were "Don't let it be forgot that once there was a spot for happily ever aftering here in Camelot." Interestingly, friends of the President said his favorite song was "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?"

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis grew up in a privileged New England family, and was thus sent to standard upper crust schools of her time period.

She got her secondary education at Holton Arms-School in Maryland, and, what would now be considered her high school education was received at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut.

She spent her first two years of college at Vassar (an experience she is said to have disliked), spent her junior year studying in France at Sorbonne, and then transferred to George Washington University to finish her education. It was where she eventually graduated and earned a bachelors of arts degree in French literature there.

This magazine does not exist. In 1983, John Kennedy would have been dead for twenty years, and Caroline Kennedy would have been 26.

After her brother died, the Martha's Vineyard estate was Caroline's alone. She made a number of changes to the property, increasing the size of the house and adding an inground swimming pool. The expansion of the house did involve some demolition of the parts of the original house.

She must have gotten, she had two small children when he died. She must have gotten a pension from the government as he was in office when he died. She certainly lost it when she married Onassis,but the children must have kept it until they finished college. But I have read it was not much of a pension.

Jackie was once heard to say 'I want to live my life, not record it." As of 2012, it is believed that Jackie Kennedy Onassis never wrote a personal memoir about herself. But if the rumors are to be believed (and many Jackie admirers and loathers believe there is one more surprise that Jackie left for them) those memoirs would not be made public until long after the individuals (and perhaps their immediate families) will have passed away, which would be about a century after the Kennedy Presidency. Some have said she wanted 14 hours of audio tapes she recorded to be released publicly 50 years after the death of Caroline Kennedy, according to a USA Today Article in the early 1990's. Whether this turned out to be the 6 and a half hour interview with Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. that was released in 2011 remains to be seen, given the distortions of the tabloid press, and the extensive privacy that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis took with all her private papers and sealed interviews with historians and reporters.

Yes she did. That was one of the reasons why she married him. She wanted to move her kids away from the U.S. because after RFK was killed she felt the U.S was not safe for her children. Ethel Kennedy (RFK's widow) went to their wedding and asked Ari if he had any brothers.

She lived most of her life in the public eye, yet managed to stay alive and project enough dignity and grace to live a good life, one where she could edit books of her interest, children that were relatively not spoiled despite all the wealth and fame they were born to, and keep up the best possible portrayal of her husband and his administration to mythical standards despite their many flaws and imperfections.

According to Jackie they were not even in the same room when they got engaged.

In 1953 John wanted Jackie to go with him to his sister Eunice's wedding to Sargent Shriver, but she was invited to take pictures at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Jackie went to England and while she was there John sent a telegram asking her to marry him.

She told Lady Bird Johnson when asked why she would not change from her clothing that she 'wanted them to see what they did to Jack,' yet she did wash her face of her husband's blood.

Jackie Onassis and her husband the Greek tycoon had no children of their own. The children were from John Kennedy.

She became famous as the beloved widow of John F. Kennedy, whose saintly image was shattered in 1968 when she married Aristotle Onassis. Because the press ran headlines like "Jackie Oh No!" she was known from that point on as Jackie O. So many Americans went ballistic over her decision, and only added to the intrusion of her privacy by feeding demand for photographs and articles about her.

This agreement was made void with her marriage to Aristotle Onassis in 1968.

Onassis. Since she married Aristotle Onassis in a traditional Greek Wedding, she became Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, or known by the press and public as Jackie O.

She hated the word 'redocorate,' she told Hugh Sidey in her interview with LIFE Magazine about the 'restoration' of the White House she engaged herself in 1961. With the assistance of the White House Historical Association (which she helped create that year), the use of famous American interior designers (Du Pont and Sister Parish), and the donations of various items of historical and cultural significance and importance to the White House. Her love of French culture was evident, since she used alot of furniture and furnishings from the Monroe White House, a President who bought much of his furniture from France. She also was inspired by a trip to Venezuela, whose Presidential Mansion was full of furnishing that reflected the whole nation's history, something she remarked that the White House lacked, saying the place was furnished like a third-rate hotel in some places. She also created a guidebook for White House tour guides and librarians to help supplement the donations given by private donors and citizens to help pay for the restoration of the White House.

She wore simple sheath dresses, boxy Chanel style suits, often went bare-legged--even to Mass, popularized large sunglasses, and generally is credited for making American style simpler and more Paris chic (she studied french fashion magazines and would have her dressmaker copy designs). She also wore her famous triple strand pearl necklace a lot, a trend other women continue to follow today.

An agreement that nullified any financial support from the Kennedy family, a couple of million dollars upfront for the bride, and $25,000 for every year afterward.
