While "MT," as she called him, never formally divorced his wife, Lily, he and Jackie, by all accounts, lived a simple, peaceful life together both at 1040 and Red Gate Farm, the estate she built on Martha's Vineyard. The final year of her life was turbulent as she battled lymphoma. She endured radiation treatments and even having a shunt put in her brain to directly administer chemotherapy once the cancer had spread. She died on May 19th, 1994, leaving an estate of about $35 million dollars to her two children, John and Caroline.
