Most 4.0L engines with federal emissions have two oxygen sensors located on the exhaust pipe before the muffler. The problem is most likely a bad Blower Motor Resistor. The High setting bypasses the resistors and connects directly to the battery. The lower speeds use the resistor to lower the voltage. Where is it?: Usually the reisitor is found behind the glove box to the left. Also the wires from the control knobs should lead to the resistor.

Check the fuse first (owners manual has a fuse box diagram) or might be on fuse box. If o/k then:

Unplug the motor and check for power(test light or multimeter) going to the motor. If you have power (key on engine off) change the motor. If no power check the resistor and then the wiring back to the switches/relays.

Look on the right side of the engine, just a little below the valve cover. About half way back, a 401 will be stamped with a raised 4 0 1, Clever, huh? You'll probably need a flashlight, may have to wipe away some grime, but that's where you look.

A fast flashing turn signal, on most any vehicle, is an indicator that a turn signal bulb is going out or has gone out on that side(i.e. front turn signal on passenger side flashing fast, check the rear turn signal bulb on passenger side.) This will cause the light on your dash board to flash fast as well. This is generaly a good time to replace all of the bulbs, turn signal, running lights, and break lights, as they are so cheap. Also check deck light or top break light if applicable for burn outs.

I had my friend telling me this for months that the only reason why my truck was so awesome was that it had a Chevy motor. they only thing Chevy was the 2.6 cylinder V6 that had less hoarse power and torque than the I4 2.5 made by AMC and then Chrysler in later years. The four-cylinder and V6 shared the same drivetrain components, whereas stronger transmissions were needed for the new 4.0 L.

The bell housing bolt pattern for all Jeep 304/360/401 V8s and straight six 232/258/242 is the same.

The bell housing from a straight 6 (242/258) from 1983-86 will bolt to any Jeep post 63 v8.

But, the crank shaft pilot shaft holes are many diffrent sizes. So, you need to measure the pilot hole; and be prepared to be creative in finding a bearing.

NOT: You are not restricted to Jeep t-5; and can also use the othrr ford and Chevy verions; but you need to measure the pilot shaft length.

Try the T5 from the 4cyl mustang; it has the right pilot shaft length and the first gear ratio is 4:1 rather than 3:1 on a T5 for a V8.

Would wanna check your timing belt. My mother has a Jeep Wrangler and everytime she would come to a stop sign, or light where she had to let of the gas, the jeep would die. A friend looked at it and realized that the timing belt had a bunch of chuncks missing from it. Once it was replaced she hasn't had a problem since.

Depending on what type of air you put in depends on how much time and money you spend. The cheapest way is to get a small electric unit that fits under your dash,the pro's is its pretty cheap,the cons is you have only one air outlet,pricr approx 500.00. the other way is to install a compressor under the hood,new belt to drive compressor,which might require new pulley's and assorted new parts. depending on if you do it using a old jeep for parts or if you get a garage to do it, you approx 5-7hundred,garage 2000.00.

It could be a low or dead battery. The 2000 Sport was notable for causing a heavy draw on the battery when being started and, having one, I found that installing the most powerful battery that will fit is the solution. I got mine from a battery shop specialist. Until I did this the Jeep ate batteries fairly often and of course they failed at the most inopportune time or place. Will your work with a jump start? If so it is a good indication your present battery if low. Good luck.

What year and model jeep?

If its only noticeable while its idling (like parked at a red light), and its a high-pitched quick rattle, it might be the plastic fan shroud. The plastic tabs that keep it in place rattle on my 99 Cherokee.
