How do you change a throttle cable on a john Deere LX172?
You can buy the part online or at your local John Deere dealer ~$30. Take the hood off, remove the battery, and from the bottom side you should be able to access the two bolts. You will need to remove them as well as the screw that holds the cable on at the engine. You can replace just the lever, but it comes complete so you might as well do it all. The bolts are a real pain. You will need extensions and a universal joint. Bolts should be 10mm. Be careful not to strip the threads.

How do you change a cam in a 445 John Deere?
Very simple. Remove engine complete, put on bench fan down, remove water pump and front cover. Remove valve covers tip rockers and remove pushrods slide cam out. Clean block install lifters slide new came in. Install gasket. Put front cover on and waterpump. Slide pushrods in place back under rocker. Install valve cover. Bolt engine back in. Takes no more then 4 hours to do the job. Last one I did cost about 250$ to do. A cam? And a few gaskets is all u need!
