Haydn was married to a woman but never opened her letters when he lived in England. This tells us nothing about his orientation; he simply didn't like his wife. Although I have no serious evidence, I feel from his music that he was gay. His music has a directness that reminds me of Handel's works. Handel, people agree, was gay.

Haydn's quartets Opus,17, 20, and especially Op.33. In1782, Mozart also began a thorough study of the works of Bach and Handel at the urging of Baron van Swieten. These did not include any string quartets, yet their influence on the "Haydn" quartets is obvious and strong. Of course, Mozart was also acquainted with the quartets of Richter, Dittersdorf, Vanhal, and the other Mannheim and Viennese composers, but in the "Haydn" quartets he is moving away from their ideas.

There is a mistake. The theme by Haydn does not exist. When Dave Brubeck composed "Three to get ready" it was a tribute to Haydn. Some people thought he composed from a theme, but it's not true. (Sorry for my bad English !).
