King Arthur did not become a knight. He was working for a knight and planning to become one, but he became king first. There was a contest once that Merlin held. Uther Pendragon was king but died. King Arthur was taken to the Isle of Avalon to be healed, and what happened to him after reaching the island is a mystery. Apart from the somewhat dubious claim by the monks at Glastonbury to have found King Arthur's grave in the Middle Ages, no real evidence has emerged for an Arthurian grave. Elaine of Carbonek had his son Sir Galahad. I don't think he married her in most of the famous sources, but in some modern retellings she did. Lancelot only sleeps with her because he thinks she's Guinevere after Morgan Le Fay (sometimes it's a handmaid of Elaine's) drugs him. Hope I helped.
This is close! Brisen is actually the name of Elaine's handmaid, not Morgan. Morgan and Lancelot do have conflict and tension between them though. Morgan kidnaps Lancelot in the Morte d'Arthur and she and her friends insist he chooses one of them as a paramour. In the Vulgate Cycle, Morgan holds Lancelot captive and he uses his time to draw murals of his love affair with Guinevere on the walls. Later Morgan shows them to Arthur. Isn't Arthurian literature fun?

Was King Arthur a medieval king?
It is not even certain that King Arthur was a real person. If he was real, he was probably a British war leader in late ancient or very early medieval times.
Long after that, during the middle ages, many stories of Arthur developed and, as was common then, they were set in the world as the medieval people knew it, not the world of late ancient times. So whatever he was in reality, the stories that have come down to us are stories of a medieval king.
