Sometimes fiddler crabs or other crab species are sold for aquariums. Most require brackish or even saltwater. Few thrive in freshwater. Most require live insects, worms, and/or small fish to eat. They can harass or kill other small animals in the tank with them. Many have nasty pinchers. For this reason, they are best suited to a set-up solely for them. Almost all of the crabs sold for "freshwater" tanks require a haul-out spot. The water level must be low enough to allow them to get in and out of the water with ease. If denied the ability to get out of the water, they will eventually die. They most likely also require full spectrum lighting over the basking site but studies probably have not been done on this. Fiddler crabs and similar species stay relatively small, at a few inches in size.
Chinese because the Koi fish is a Chinese belief.
depends on pond size and water temperature.. for a small pond, once every other day or once every three days should be OK. For a big pond w/ a lot of natural stuff in there you shouldn't need to feed them much at all. Also as the water temp gets lower (winter) feed them less.
Yes you can swim in it and they won't hurt you.
Place the container the fish is in in the pond and using a thermometer allow the temperatures to equalise. Failing that, have the fish in a bucket half filled with their original water and add 1 cupfull of water from the pond into the bucket each 5-10 minutes. Once things have equalised lower the bucket of fish into the pond gently and once the bucket is submerged tip it so the fish will swim out.
The most prevalent danger to Koi are birds. Mostly Blue Heron and other predatory birds. Raccoons and other animals will eat them as well if they are able to catch them.
Koi herbal supplements are made of flowers, leaves, fruit, stems, and seeds. Benefits of taking the supplement include increased energy, fighting infections, and it aids in reducing constipation.
Turtles are in fact herbivores and carnivores so they can possibly feed on koi fish
Koi fish are related to goldfish, soo id say how good u take care of it. top life span is about 10 years
yes, koi fish do bring good luck thats would i'v heard but if u would like to adopd a koi fish there usally found in ponds and other areas
It depends on the species of fish. Most short lived fish like livebearers will start breeding at a few weeks and so will many of the smaller silversides like Australian Rainbows, some tetras and some danios. Others like some of the larger cichlids may not start until they are several years old.
A butterfly Koi is simply a Koi with longer and straggly finnage. They are sexed in exactly the same way as all other Koi and/or goldfish. The Koi does not reach sexual maturity until it is about 10 inches long so it can not be sexed until then. Once sexually mature the females tend to have a chubbier appearance than the males and (as with goldfish) the males develop whitish spots (Pimples) on their gill plates and pectoral fins when they come into breeding condition.
Yes they feed but as the temperature gets less their metabolism slows down so they eat less.
