Why is Passover celebrated for 8 days?

The dates and length of Jewish festivals are decided according to the complex Hebrew calendar, which involves both lunar and solar measurements taken in Israel. As in the past getting the relevant information from Israel to the farthest reaches of the world would take far longer than today, Jews in other nations added an extra day to the festivals and holidays to ensure they were celebrating the event on the correct day and, over time, this became a tradition.

Today, even though we have very fast worldwide communication networks which would be more than capable of allowing Jews in any country to get the information, festivals are often celebrated for one day more in the Diaspora (Jewish communities outside Israel) than they are in Israel - Passover is one example of this.

What Jewish feast did Jesus celebrate at the the last supper?

It was not a celebration, more of his fulfilling the work his father sent him to do. He sealed this work with his death on the cross, but he also left instuctions that all who believed upon his name should remember him by following the example set at the last supper. We are to eat bread or similar in rememberance of his body which was soon to hang on a cross. We are also to drink water or wine in rememberance of his spilt blood. Last we are to renew the covenants we have made with him.

In which day do you remember jesus last meal with his diciples?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Last Supper was held the Thursday before Easter, also known as Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday.

Another Answer:

It was on a Wednesday in the year 31 AD. Taking all the 'clues' into account that the Gospels offer, and understanding how Jews then and now count days and their Festivals and High Holy Days, we can plot out a timeline that fits with the only sign Jesus gave men of His Messiahship - 3 full days like Jonah.

First, days were/are counted from one sunset to another, just like the account in Genesis 1. Next, this was the Passover season - Nisan 14 - which was a Feast Day commemorating the 'passing over' of the angel of death in Egyptian captivity with Moses. The very next day - Nisan 15 - begins the High (Annual) Holy Days of the 'Feast of Unleavened Bread' which begins with a Sabbath and has the 1st Sunday after the 1st Sabbath as a 'Wave Sheath' offering (small representative bunch of early Spring Barley offered to God for His acceptance).

Now the Gospels tell us that Jesus and His disciples ate the Passover meal (night portion of the Passover) beginning at sunset. The meal typically takes 3 hours and ends in a hymn. Jesus then goes to pray anticipating His cruel death shortly coming. He is taken captive after Judas betrays Him and goes back and forth between the Jewish and Roman authorities. At noon during the Passover day - a Wednesday in 31 AD, He is crucified. He dies at 3:00 PM and His followers seek and are given permission to remove the body and quickly prepare it for burial before the upcoming Sabbath - 1st day of Unleavened Bread to begin at sunset. He is buried just before the sunset of Wednesday.

Recapping: Passover meal aka 'The Last Supper' began at Wednesday evening, 25 April 31 AD at the start of the Passover. He is tried and crucified on Wednesday, Passover day, 25 April 31 AD and is buried shortly before the next day began at sunset - a High Sabbath.

Answer:

Some do... There are Christian Buddhists. I know, seems like an oxymoron!! However, if you ask a Buddhist that practices only Buddhism what religion they are they will not say Buddhism. Buddhism, to the Buddhist is not a religion, but a way of life. Buddhists do not worship deities. They accept all religions as well. Therefore one can be a Buddhist and a Christian. So when you as "Do Buddhists incorporate the lords supper into their ceremonies" you can have several answers by several Buddhists who practice different religions as well as the way of Buddhism.

Further information which may be useful

Many Tantric Buddhists have a practice known as the ganacakra (in Sanskrit) or tsog (in Tibetan) feast ceremony, in which eating and drinking are practised as part of a sacred ceremony of drawing closer to their Guru. These ceremonies have a similarity to the Christian Eucharist (Holy Communion), and are most heartfelt practices.

Further information about Buddhists and religion: Some Buddhists, even monks or nuns, may say they are religious as Buddhists, and that Buddhism is their religion. However, it still stands that a Buddhist can adopt any religion he or she wishes, in addition to being a Buddhist, whether you consider it a philosophy or religion. Any religion a Buddhist adopts must be considered a peaceful one.

Can you see a picture of the Last Supper?

It isquite misunderstanding when we look at Deviance picture,

1. It is just an imagination.

2. It is not true because Jesus is not a hypocrite, while the bible teaches long hair for man is a shame for man, Jesus and his disciples should have short hair or bold head.

3. The famous picture could be the evil plan of devil to make Mary Magdalena issue later.

4.Encient Jews used to eat from same plate and drink from same vessel. It is is clear from the scripture that he took bread (NOT BREADS) and vessel (NOT VESSELS). It is believed to be a big bread good enough for the whole family at that time (BIG FAMILY).

5. If they want to eat from same plate, a rectangular table is totally inconvenient it should be a round table.

6. When it is a round table ,there is no question of who was in centre bible doesn't say anything about centre. but it says the disciple whom Jesus loved the most was leaning on his shoulder.

On what day is the Last Supper celebrated?

It was the last time that Jesus spoke with his disciples before the Crucifixion, and he showed them how to consecrate the Eucarist (sic). (by Lordcatz8)

Actually, all he did was ask his disciples to remember what he was about to do. He took the bread and said, "Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: do this in remembrance of me." The Catholics take that literally and say "hoc est enim corpus meum," (Latin for, "for this is my body.") which they believe turns the bread into the actual body of Christ.

The rest of us see the broken bread as a representation of his broken body and remember what he did for us when we have communion.

Christ told his disciples to eat his symbolic body in the form of bread and to drink his symbolic blood in the form of wine as a remembrance. Paul told the disciples to examine themselves so that they do not eat and drink of the bread and wine unworthily; they will bring damnation to themselves if they do.

What is the new meaning jesus gave to the bread and wine?

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

(Matthew 26:26, 27 KJV)

Where was the last supper painted?

Why did Leonardo da Vinci paint this?

Because his employer requested him to do so. Leonardo worked for Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, for nearly eighteen years (1482-99). The Duke decided he wanted this particular religious scene painted and Leonardo, decided painting it made perfect financial sense.

Why is it falling apart?

Leonardo da Vinci, tried using new materials for the Last Supper. Instead of using tempera on wet plaster (the preferred method of fresco painting, and one which had worked successfully for centuries), he thought he'd give using dry plaster a whirl. His experiment resulted in a more varied palette, which was Leonardo's intent. What he hadn't taken into account was that this method wasn't at all durable. The painted plaster began to flake off the wall almost immediately, and people have been attempting to restore it ever since.

Are you living in the last days?

Revelation ch 22 v 7 - "Behold i am coming soon! Blessed is he that keeps the words of the prophecy in this book."

2 Peter ch 3 v1,18

Answer:

With God, one day is "... as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day..."

In this regard... from the time Jesus walked the earth in the flesh until now... only about "three or so days" have elapsed.

I say this, because even the inspired writers of what we call the New Testament referred to their generation as living in the last days.

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." (I John 2:18)

"...God... hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son..." (Heb.1:1-2).

Every day since Christ have been the "last days." And with each passing 24-hour day... the world draws closer to the conclusion of the "last days" and the conclusion of God's 6000 year ['6-day'work-week] plan. The days of man's allotted "six-thousand year work week" of rule on earth are numbered... and the "Lord's Day" [His thousand year, Sabbath Day, rule on earth] will complete the 7000 year [7-day week] of His plan.

So, yes -- we are all living in the last days. Man's works on the earth are almost done. His works shall cause all life to cease, unless the Lord returns to stop it [Matt.24:22].

Judging by the direction present global events are taking the world... there can't be too many more days left. Twenty-four hour ones, that is.
I am guessing that you are really asking, are we living in the end times?

I will let you be the judge. The Bible at 1 Timothy 3:1-4 spoke of the "last days" as being "critical times ard to deal with." Those verses went on to point out that in the last days, people would be unthankful, disloyal, puffed up with pride, lovers of themselves, lovers of money, disobedient to parents, haughty, fierce, and many other things. The question is, do you see this today?

Jesus, at Matthew chapter 24 and Luke chapter 21, when asked about what would be the sign of the "end of the world." answered that there would be wars on a worldwide scale, disease, crime, earthquakes, food shortages, a lack of love among people, that people would be fearful of what is coming apon the earth, and many other hings. Again, have you seen this in your lifetime?

The answer to these two questions I have just posed, is the answer to the original question you just asked.

Here is a web address to an online article that gives further information: Are We Living in the Last Days? http://watchtower.org/e/20060915/article_01.htm

This brings forth another question: what do we do about it? Jesus said at John 17:3, "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of YOU, the only true God, ad the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." So we must learn about God and his son Jesus, so that we can know what to do to survibe the end, and get everlasting life. That same article has an addition link at the bottom of the page that will give information from the Bible about that.

AnswerThere are many predictions about the end of time and all of them failed.

The Bible predicted that the end will come within the lifetime of Jesus' listener. See Matthew 16:28, Luke 9:27, Mark 9:11.

for other failed predictions see link "63 failed & 1 ambiguous end-of-the-world predictions between 30 CE and 1990 CE"

The world has been in existence for 4+ billion years and will continue to exist for billions more of years. The probability of the world ending within your lifetime is very, very, very remote. Sleep well tonight..,

Answer:Personally, I believe we are closing in on the End of Time as we know it. The most obvious sign is the Biblical prophesy that says the generation that sees Israel become a nation again, will also see the end of time. If you are not a Christian, that would have little importance, but if you think about it, the world is ending for somebody at this very second, and it will end for us all one day.
