What is Maundy Thursday and what does Maundy mean?
The word "maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum (commandment) which is the first word that Jesus spoke to His apostles after He washed their feet (John 13:34):
• "Mandátum novum do vobis dicit Dóminus, ut diligátis ínvicem, sicut diléxi vos."
• "I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you." The feast of Maundy (or Holy) Thursday commemorates the institution of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) at the Last Supper. The biblical the events of the first Holy Thursday were:
• The eating of the Easter lamb or the paschal meal
• The washing of the disciple's feet
• The institution of the Most Holy Eucharist
. • The first Mass at which Jesus Christ is the eternal high priest
. • The first Communion of the apostles
. • The first conferring of Holy Orders
• The foretelling of Judas' betrayal and Peter's denials
• The farewell discourse and priestly prayer of Jesus
• The agony and capture of Jesus in the Garden of Olives
What happened at the last supper of jesus?
There are quite a number of subjects discussed in the various records passed down to us in the Gospels about the last supper. The Gospel of John, for example, devotes all of chapters 13 through 17 to it.
Broadly speaking, there are a number of different things discussed.
1. The supper itself and its meaning.
2. Who was going to betray Jesus.
3. Jesus teaching about humility.
4. Jesus explanation to the disciples of the necessity of His impending death, and their various reactions to this.
5. Jesus brief interchange with Judas Iscariot as Judas was about to go out to betray Him.
6. Various teachings such as about the coming of the Holy Spirit, the importance of abiding in Christ (John 15) , coming persecution etc.
Where was the last supper painted?
Why did Leonardo da Vinci paint this?
Because his employer requested him to do so. Leonardo worked for Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, for nearly eighteen years (1482-99). The Duke decided he wanted this particular religious scene painted and Leonardo, decided painting it made perfect financial sense.
Why is it falling apart?
Leonardo da Vinci, tried using new materials for the Last Supper. Instead of using tempera on wet plaster (the preferred method of fresco painting, and one which had worked successfully for centuries), he thought he'd give using dry plaster a whirl. His experiment resulted in a more varied palette, which was Leonardo's intent. What he hadn't taken into account was that this method wasn't at all durable. The painted plaster began to flake off the wall almost immediately, and people have been attempting to restore it ever since.

The race is not given to the swift nor to the strong but to the one that endureth to the end?
This statement was given to show that God does not favor those who look or seem physically fit. Instead, He favors those who have faith in Him.
Are you living in the last days?
Revelation ch 22 v 7 - "Behold i am coming soon! Blessed is he that keeps the words of the prophecy in this book."
2 Peter ch 3 v1,18
Answer:
With God, one day is "... as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day..."
In this regard... from the time Jesus walked the earth in the flesh until now... only about "three or so days" have elapsed.
I say this, because even the inspired writers of what we call the New Testament referred to their generation as living in the last days.
"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time." (I John 2:18)
"...God... hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son..." (Heb.1:1-2).
Every day since Christ have been the "last days." And with each passing 24-hour day... the world draws closer to the conclusion of the "last days" and the conclusion of God's 6000 year ['6-day'work-week] plan. The days of man's allotted "six-thousand year work week" of rule on earth are numbered... and the "Lord's Day" [His thousand year, Sabbath Day, rule on earth] will complete the 7000 year [7-day week] of His plan.
So, yes -- we are all living in the last days. Man's works on the earth are almost done. His works shall cause all life to cease, unless the Lord returns to stop it [Matt.24:22].
Judging by the direction present global events are taking the world... there can't be too many more days left. Twenty-four hour ones, that is.
I am guessing that you are really asking, are we living in the end times?
I will let you be the judge. The Bible at 1 Timothy 3:1-4 spoke of the "last days" as being "critical times ard to deal with." Those verses went on to point out that in the last days, people would be unthankful, disloyal, puffed up with pride, lovers of themselves, lovers of money, disobedient to parents, haughty, fierce, and many other things. The question is, do you see this today?
Jesus, at Matthew chapter 24 and Luke chapter 21, when asked about what would be the sign of the "end of the world." answered that there would be wars on a worldwide scale, disease, crime, earthquakes, food shortages, a lack of love among people, that people would be fearful of what is coming apon the earth, and many other hings. Again, have you seen this in your lifetime?
The answer to these two questions I have just posed, is the answer to the original question you just asked.
Here is a web address to an online article that gives further information: Are We Living in the Last Days? http://watchtower.org/e/20060915/article_01.htm
This brings forth another question: what do we do about it? Jesus said at John 17:3, "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of YOU, the only true God, ad the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." So we must learn about God and his son Jesus, so that we can know what to do to survibe the end, and get everlasting life. That same article has an addition link at the bottom of the page that will give information from the Bible about that.
AnswerThere are many predictions about the end of time and all of them failed. The Bible predicted that the end will come within the lifetime of Jesus' listener. See Matthew 16:28, Luke 9:27, Mark 9:11.
for other failed predictions see link "63 failed & 1 ambiguous end-of-the-world predictions between 30 CE and 1990 CE"
The world has been in existence for 4+ billion years and will continue to exist for billions more of years. The probability of the world ending within your lifetime is very, very, very remote. Sleep well tonight..,
Answer:Personally, I believe we are closing in on the End of Time as we know it. The most obvious sign is the Biblical prophesy that says the generation that sees Israel become a nation again, will also see the end of time. If you are not a Christian, that would have little importance, but if you think about it, the world is ending for somebody at this very second, and it will end for us all one day.Why do some people not believe in the resurrection of Jesus?
In the earliest manuscripts of Mark's Gospel, there was no mention of any appearances of the resurrected Jesus. The Gospel finished at verse 16:8, with the women fleeing in fear and telling no one that the tomb was empty. What is called the "Long Ending" (there was also a "Short Ending") was added much later by an interpolator.
Scholars now know that the authors of the other New Testament gospels relied on Mark's Gospel for everything they knew about the life and mission of Jesus. Yet each one described the risen Jesus as meeting the disciples at different times and places, with remarkably little consistency. It strains belief that evangelists knew nothing about the life of Jesus before his resurrection, copying what the knew from Mark, yet could tell us in detail about the resurrected Jesus. And it strains belief even more, that each account differs fundamentally from the others, yet all are true.
People who do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus do so because there is no credible evidence that it really happened.
What was served in Jesus' last supper?
You get somewhat of a clue when Jesus gives the disciples communion. They had wine and unleavened bread (without yeast).
As this was a Passover Seder meal observance, the following would have been served, as a minimum:
Matzah - unleavened bread.
Wine
Maror and Chazeret - two sorts of various bitter herbs....possibilities include lettuce, endive, pepper grass,or watercress.
Karpas - a vegetable dipped in salt water and vinegar.
Z'roar - roasted lamb shank.
Who happened after the Last Supper?
lots of things, they sang a hymn( Matthew 26:30) Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane and prayed for a few hours(Matthew 26:39). But while He was praying, his disciples fell asleep( Matthew 26:40). Then the leaders of the land came to take him to Pontius Pilate(governor of Judea), then to Herod(measly little king of Galilee) , then back Pilate. The people wanted to crucify Jesus, but Pilate knew that he was a righteous "man" so he got the worst prisoner out of jail and gave the people their choice, Jesus or the worst guy in the country, and the people chose the worst guy. Then Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead three days later. the story may seem far fetched to you, but there were at least 500 witnesses that saw Him after he rose from the dead. You can say that maybe he was not really dead but the Bible says that he did`t even look human because he was all bloody and all the flesh was peeled off his body.
What is the art movement of the painting the Last Supper?
Are you talking about Leonardo da Vinci? How shall I know? You should always mention the artist when asking about a picture. Especially in this case. The last supper is a very important scene in the Bible and has been painted by hundreds of artists during the centuries. If you mean Leonardo's mural painting it is an epoch-making work which has got a very important place in the history of art.
What did Jesus pray for at the Last Supper for his disciples?
John chapter 13-17 give a detailed description of what Jesus said during the Last Supper. Matthew, Mark, and Luke do not go into as much detail.
John 14:9 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
John 16:5 (KJV) But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
John 16:19 (KJV) Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
John 16:31 (KJV) Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
In what city did the last supper take place?
The last supper was held in the upper room.two disciples were told to follow a lady with a pitcher of water i, in the city , and then ask the master of the house for the room the lord wants.
Who owned the house of the Last Supper?
The owner of the home in which the "Last Supper" was served belonged to a man whom Jesu knew. This man was obviously a person of certain wealth since he owned a home that contained a second floor.
“Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ “
Onlyone man can fit this description-Joseph Mathius, better known as Joseph ben Matityahu (Biblical Hebrew: יוסף בן מתתיהו, Yosef ben Matityahu. This man was probably related to Jesus, a cousin, perhaps. The Gospel of Luke ascribes to Joseph Ben Matityahu as the model for which Jesus, as a child, reads from the Holy Scriptures at the age of 12 rather than 13, quite possibly as the Bar Mitzvah of Jesus.

How much money is a portrait of the last supper worth?
Depends which one you mean. Leonardo's is the most famous, and it's painted on a monastery wall and therefore totally and permanently unsaleable. So the answer is either 'priceless' or 'valueless'.
Does the Bible say that Jesus did eat meat?
yes it does. but he was wrong as God forbids the eating of pork and no man is above him...
whoever said that the new testament says that you can eat pork can you please tell me in what book/chapter/verse you found this on.
Another Answer:
The New Testament doesn't contain the statement, "You can eat pork." However, it does teach that all distinctions between "clean" and "unclean" foods were done away with. Some pertinent references:
Mark 7:18, 19 - So He [Jesus] said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?"
Also see the account of Peter's vision in Acts 10:9-16, noting what he was told in verse 15: "What God has cleansed you must not call common."
And in 1 Timothy 4:1-3, Paul refers to the requirement to "abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth" as a "doctrine of demons," then writes in verse 4 and 5: For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Another View:
In Acts 10 (the most common scripture used as an excuse to eat pork) Peter travels to meet Cornelius. On his way he stops on a housetop to pray. He became very hungry and would have eaten but fell into a trance. He sees a vision of all sorts of animals and wild beasts creepy crawlies, etc. God tells him "Rise, Peter, kill, and eat" Peter says he has never eaten anything common or unclean. God basically gives permission to eat food of the gentiles "common". (What God has cleansed, that call not thou common) God never made reference in this passage to Peter's statement of unclean (which would be pigs and other animals with split hooves)... He never said He blessed unclean. He blessed common. Also, it goes on around verse 28 to say that it was unlawful for a Jew to keep company or come unto one of another nation and the vision was God's way of showing Peter that he should not call any man common or unclean. It was in reference to Peter being a Jew and his travels and company in the land of the gentiles. The vision had absolutely nothing to do with pork. Sorry to disappoint.
Did Judas Iscariot participate in the last supper?
Yes he did. The books of Matthew Mark Luke and John are where you can find the description of the Last Supper.
What does the pope do on Maundy Thursday?
The institution of the Eucharist as the central rite of the church, and Jesus' commandment that his disciples "love one another". The latin for "commandment" is "mandatum" from which the name "Maundy" Thursday is derived.
What did Jesus want to teach his disciples at the last supper?
Matthew 26: 21: And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
what about the old testament?
What did Jesus eat at the last supper?
This is actually a fascinating question.
It's hard to say exactly what Jesus may have eaten, but if you look at the typical diet in the 1st century, you can get a pretty good idea.
Breakfast would have been a light meal perhaps of bread and cheese.
What are some biblical allusions of the last supper in literature and film?
The gospels of the New Testament.
Because, though the actual 'Last Supper' described in scripture included just Christ and his apostles(Mark 14:17/Matthew 26:20/Luke 22:7-14), Veronese followed his usual format and included many extra people, including 'comic dwarves', pagan German soldiers, someone picking his teeth with a fork, a servant with a bloody nose from some 'accident', and several animals...or as Veronese himself said "figures of my own invention". He was ordered to remove the dog and replace it with Mary Madelene, to which he objected. Then finally he was just told to remove all the inappropriate characters within three months. Instead, he just changed the name.
How do you celebrate your last birthday?
i had a birthday party with Disney princesses and marvel superheros :)
Was Mary magdalene in the last supper painting?
No, all the Gospel accounts tell us that Jesus sat down with the twelve disciples. There is no evidence to suggest that any one else was present.
