The other day I was in Clark's looking for some sandals because I needed them for my holiday in about 11 days. I found some that I really loved and it was in my size however there was only 1. So I asked where the other shoe was ? It had been in the window on display so the colour had considerably faded from the original. I quite liked the colour of the shoe that had faded so I asked how long it had been on display for? The lady said about 8-9 days. I said if i was to buy the shoes and leave one out in the sun for 8-9 days would there be a discount. she told me that they would only cost me 5 pounds. which was pretty good considering they used to be 45 pounds. It has not been the best weather lately so i need the quickest way possible to fade them if anyone can help please leave an answer thank you x!

What will happen if you put water on leather?

Water is good for leather and in fact is necessary to keep it in good condition. Leather 'breathes' which means that moisture moves in and out (transpiration). In hot temperatures (natural and artificial conditions) leather loses moisture and so water is needed to replace the moisture and keep it rehydrated.

Leather is finished in different ways and the type of finish will determine how water reacts when it is applied to the leather.

Aniline style leathers will absorb the water quickly and care needs to be taken to make sure that water marks do not occur. These type of leathers will darken when water is applied but will generally dry out to the original colour.

Coated leathers allow water to sit on the surface for longer and water will generally bead on the surface and not cause the leather to darken.

Wiping over leather with a damp cloth or water based products such as Lazy Leather will help to prolong the life of your leather and keep it at the correct hydration.

How do you srink stretched leather?

Soak leather in water for at least 2 hours. Then place the leather out in a hot area such as by a furnace, fire place, or outside on a sunny day. You may also hairdry the leather to speed up the process. If the leather has to be a certain size check on the leather every 30 mintues to see if it has shrunk enough. When its the correct size keep it in that form and wait till its dry. For example it you were srinking the straps on flip-flops take them from the heat and put them on your feet till their dry.

How do you tell what kind of leather is on your couch?

There are several tests you can do to ascertain this.

Moisture test:

Put a drop of water on your leather (test in a hidden area first) - don't worry water is good for leather so will not damage it. If the water soaks into the leather and goes dark you have an aniline style leather. If the water sits on the surface you have a coated leather of some sort.

Some aniline style leathers will have a finish on them which will slow down the rate of absorption.

Scratch Test:

Most aniline leathers will scratch with your finger nail and leave a mark

These two tests are part of a 5 step process used as an industry standard for testing leather.
