Both drugs are classified as SSRI drugs. However, Lexapro treats general anxiety disorder, and Depressive Disorders. Citalopram treat major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Dementia Tobacco and Alcohol Abuse.

For the hypothetical patient, these drugs can be used together without interaction.

There is no definitive 'too much' for an overdose of Lexapro. Some can have an overdose experience on doses that are therapeutic for most. Also, with typical SSRI's.. they are considered relatively safe for the mentally unstable. This means that if one were suicidal that an attempt at taking ones life with an abundance of 'lexapro' or most any other typical SSRI will not cause death.

If taken as prescribed by your doctor the chances for overdose are very slim, and if an overdose does occur at a regular prescribed dose -- The effects are usually easily managed and will go away.

Symptoms of overdose would include (but not limited to) : nausea, vomiting, tremor, sweating, rapid heartbeat, confusion, dizziness, seizures, and coma. Obviously the latter being very rare. Also the less severe of these symptoms are not completely indicative of overdose. ie: If one is dizzy or confused it does not mean they are experiencing an overdose from the SSRI in question. It is the combination of symptoms that provide an accurate conclusion.

To prevent overdose it is important one takes the medication as prescribed, and if a dose is missed (forgotten) to not double up. Simple take the next scheduled dose. Less is more.

As with most SSRI's, they take several weeks to a month to begin to become fully effective. This is a 'loading' effect into the body. The drug builds up to some degree, and the body begins to agree with the chemical changes. This is why taking more at any time in an attempt to get 'more' of an effect is dangerous and inneffective. These medications do not work like most others. They are not instant, they are not something that can be dose titrated in a 24 hour time frame for change of helpful mediation. Dose titration must be done over weeks of time to produce desired results.

I was on 10mg for 4 weeks and just stopped taking it 6 days ago. Your dr would probably suggest tapering off but I didn't do that. I am feeling lightheaded, nausea, dizziness and having headaches since I discontinued use. I am hoping I only need to go through another week of these uncomfortable side effects. I have also been told you usually experience these side effects even if you taper off so I'm not sure what is worse....allowing this drug to continue to be in your system for a longer period of time or just dealing with the symptoms. In my case I decided to deal with these side effects and will never take this drug again.

There have been some people who reported tics or nervousness after using loratadine. However, the complaints were few and the tics disappeared after stopping the medication.

EVERY medication on the planet has SOME sort of side-effect. Basically what everyone has to do is balance the benefits vs drawbacks. If the Lexapro is really making your life better, then you have to decide if it is worth the nightsweats. If not ask your doctor to try another med. Every medical decision is based on PROS/CONS, espesially when taking medication.

As far as I am concerned, my doctor has prescribed me anti-inflammatory (such as naproxen or ibuprofen) together with muscle relaxer (such as flexiril). Make sure the the dosage is not too high though. For example, I would take a 250mg naproxen (2 times/day) and 10 mg flexiril (3 times/day).

at one time or one day and the next day? if it gives you stress the first few days,that's normal...i take 10mg once a day and for the first 3 days i was on it, it gave me a constant panic attack. my advice is tough it out if you need the medication. but def. ask your doctor because they know whats best for your body. if youre going to take more than your prescribed dose,call ur doc n jus ask if that would be okay. u gotta make sure it isn't dangerous 4 u. hope this helps

There is only one way to CURE anxiety. That is by therapy! I urge you to find a good therapist who can teach you healthy ways to deal with anxiety and stress. This way, you can get rid of the habit-forming tranquilizers and get back to living!

No, it is an SNRI. SNRIs act to both serotonin and norepinephrine whilst SSRIs only to serotonin. Venlafaxine (Effexor) is thought to be stronger than SSRIs but may have more side effects due to its double action. In doses over 225mg, it has some moderate action to dopamine.

I've been on seroquel 100mg for the past two years and have recently decided to change to Zeldox/Geodon after gradually putting on 9kg. My Psychiatrist tells me that most people lose the weight they put on (depending on how much) quite quickly after stopping seroquel, and for the amount I put on it should take weeks rather than months. I cant really say what the case would be if someone was on a very high dose and/or put on large amount of weight, but hope that helps :)

You might notice some mild withdrawal, but it's unlikely to be much of a problem after only 15 days. If you've decided to stop taking it, I recommend you do so as soon as possible. These drugs are very unpleasant to quit once you've become dependent.

In my opinion, yes! The regular Wellbutrin didn't help much for depression or anxiety and gave me migraines. However, the Wellbutrin XL has worked wonders for me. I was taking 150 mg / day and am now taking 150 mg 2x / day. I can now deal w/ anxiety and stress. My husband was just prescribed Zoloft for anxiety. The Dr. says Zoloft works better for men than for women. I can attest to that because the Zoloft didn't help me much.

Herbal supplements generally don't work as well as SSRI antidepressants like Lexapro because they are not specifically formulated to help the neurotransmitters in the brain.

However, if you are not on ANY psychotropic drug, you can try St. John's Wort. It supposedly improves mood. However, again, don't take it if you are taking any other psychotropic drug!!!!

I suggest if you miss two doses that you just take one of the normal doses as soon as possible. I am currently on 5 mg Lexapro once daily and I have missed my medication before. Never take two simultaneously and understand that this drug works collectively over the days you have taken it. The half-life of this medication is longer than most medications. In simpler terms, this means that the medication works by building up in your system and missing is dose or two will not have tremendous impact or really "mess" you up. Just take your dose as soon as you can! [: It is said that those who have been on it long term will experience withdrawal but because of the mechanisms of this medication, it can often take up to 10 days for the withdrawal symptoms to appear since it stays in the system for so long and builds up. This all depends on metabolism. You should be just fine! Take it though to avoid withdrawal.
