When trying to download wmv on Apple am getting the following sentence Safari cant open the file because no available application can open it?

This error message is bothering you because the app can;t find a suitable software to launch itself. For instance, a MOV file will launch with Quick Time player or VLC, but if you don't have a media player that supports MOV then it will fail to launch and display this error. The best job would be to identify the extension of the file like "Viss.JPEG", this is an image file with jpeg format. So you have to google appropriate player to launch jpeg. Similarly, check out the file extension of the app you are downloading and finds its suitable application.

Once you backup files to an external hard drive can you delete them from the computer hard drive to create space?

It depends on the type of file you are talking about.

If you back up your documents (Word, Excel) or photographs then you can certainly delete them from your computer hard drive once they're on the external hard drive. If you need them again you can simply plug the external hard drive to the computer in order to access them.

If you're talking about program files than you have to consider whether or not the external hard drive will always be plugged into your computer. If you move a program file and then unplug the external hard drive then you should not delete the files unless you plan on plugging the external hard drive in (or leaving it attached) every time you want to use that program. If you don't mind accessing a program from the external hard drive every time you need to use it than you can certainly delete it from your computer hard drive. Otherwise, make a copy to the external hard drive as a backup in case you have computer problems and leave the original version you want to run regularly on your computer.

How do you make a picture a background of a power-point slide?

Right click on the slide, edit background, then rather than selecting a colour you can select a picture, you will have to browse for it in your hard drive. You can apply to all slides or just the one you are working on.

Alternatively:

When PowerPoint is open, you need to Copy/Insert an image that you would like to become the background into the slide. Enlarge the image to cover the length of the slide and/or how much of it you want to be the background, and right click. Go to "Arrange" and "Send to Back." This will only work on one slide at a time though, you will have to repeat for those slides that you want to have the same background.

OR...

Before posting your Notescast to your iPod, you'll need to enable your iPod as a disk drive. To do so,

A. Connect your iPod to your computer as you normally would

B. Once iTunes opens, select your iPod under Devices in the Source List on the left side of the iTunes screen

c. Click the "Enable Disk Use" checkbox in the Options section. You'll find this checkbox at the base of the screen under the "Summary" tab.

Once finished, then open your File Manager application. Because your iPod is now enabled as a disk drive, your File Manager app will recognize it as such. If you click on your iPod, you'll see the Notes folder. Now highlight the file you created (which should've been saved as a .txt file) and copy it to this Notes folder. Then highlight your iPod in iTunes, and choose to eject it. (Now that you have enabled your iPod as a disk drive, you should always choose to eject it when disconnecting it from your computer) Now go to your iPod main menu, select Extras, then Notes and you should see your new Notescast.

Depends on what ipod you have if it's a ipod touch then your good. Just go to the first page on your ipod there is an app there called "notes" use that.
