I suppose you meant main as in primary. Fishing, logging and agriculture are the biggest ones. The biggest employer is government work, and some of the largest companies here are Bath Iron Works (naval shipbuilding; and I believe still the largest private employer in the state), Unum (insurance) and L.L. Bean (I'm guessing you've heard of that one).
Yes they do. I am watching a beautiful full grown possum by my porch right now! -1:45am, Androscoggin County,Town of Lisbon. This summer my yard has many raccoons and skunks; this is my first up-close-and-personal possum experience. Remember to look up; they are climbers, like raccoons.
Maine is actually too far North for opossums to survive, however there have been isolated reports of opossums as far North as Toronto and Quebec.
I happened to look this up because I am from Lewiston and saw a opossum outside. I thought it was my imagination but I see him once a week. Strangely enough the first time I saw him I went outside because I heard gun shots. I saw him running across the street.

In Deer Isle ME why do they call one section The Reach?
"The Reach" refers to Eggemoggin Reach which is the section of water that separates the island of Deer Isle from the Maine mainland. There is a narrow suspension bridge, built in the 1930's I believe, that crosses this section of water. This bridge is the only way to get to the island by car. - brian
