I think malteses are healthier and even have a longer lifespam compared to shih tzus living in the same conditions. This is one of the reasons why I chose a Maltese but if you really like shih tzus I can tell you that my neighbour's girl is already 9 years old and really healthy and playful, so always your care is important. My shih tzu lived a very healthy life to 17 and a half years old he was born 92 he just died this year. so i don't know what you saying about them not living long lives. he was tied as the oldest dog ive seen in his pet commentary

A "maltipoo" is not a breed, it's a mix of Maltese and Poodle, usually toy poodle. If by "good outside" you mean can a Maltese-Poodle cross be kept mainly outside the answer is absolutely NOT. Both Maltese and toy Poodles are bred to be companion dogs and both are very small and delicate.

No dog should "live outside" but especially not any toy-sized dog. Toys breeds are very sensitive to cold and excessive heat and are in GREAT danger from roaming cats, wildlife, and even hawks. If you cannot keep a dog mostly inside then please do NOT get any dog ... and most certainly not a toy-sized one!

My Maltese likes to be brushed if you brush her gently (don't yank at any mats or tangled hair)--as long as ur nice about it they shouldn't mind.

Not usually..... but it depends on how well they are trained, and also how comfortable they are being touched. Like most dogs, its not a good idea to surprise them by grabbing or squeezing it (without letting it know you're there first). Maltese don't usually snap if they are aware of your presence, and will (ordinarily) only nip if they feel threatened. As long as you are gentle, they will not feel a need to defend themselves (unless they have not been properly trained). ;)

ALL dogs need to have time to urinate or have their bowel movements just like humans. If you work a full 8 hours or longer this is too long for your dog to go without doing their business. Walking can wait until you get home. I was just out yesterday walking my two dogs and bumped into a really nice guy in his early 20's with a German Shepherd. We got talking about dogs and he said he pays $15 per day to have a Dog Walker take his dog out once to twice a day. If you can't afford this then try to strike up a bargain with a neighbor you can trust to let your dog outside at least and you can take the dog for a walk when you get home.

Some people feed their dogs at certain times during the day, but it should be fine to leave the food out all day--as long as you know that your Maltese won't finish it all in one bite (which it shouldn't b/c a lot of Maltese like to eat when their owners eat, so if you wanted to give it a schedule of when to eat, maybe a good time would be the same times you eat)

If they are both young, it will be easy, but if one is old, or both are old, it may be harder. Shih-zus are stable and can be aggressive, while many Maltese are laid back and gentle. Many Maltese tend to take to pne person, and if you invite another dog, it may stress them out. The easiest way to do this is to put them beside you on opposite sides. Pet the new dog and let the old dog sniff at your hand, and then at the dog. IF your dog automatically rejects the new pup, don't push it. If it takes to the pup, try movin the pup neaer the older dog. Dont push it too fast though. Give it a few days and they will be playing together. This worked for my dogs =)

You're putting your hand in the wrong place.

if it's a pure bread Maltese, it should not shed because Maltese have no undercoat which is what makes most other dogs shed--they also have hair which makes them hypoallergenic. Are you sure you have a real Maltese? But something that would help is to comb him/her every day to get rid of some of the hair that would have gotten everywhere.

If your Maltese (or any dog for that matter) has a cavity (or you think he/she has a cavity), take it to the vet! They will definitely have a solution! :)

if you mean Maltese as in a dog, it shouldn't matter we have a Maltese and it hasn't harmed any kids.
