Are there any religions that don't require a state license to get married?

United States

It's not the religions that require the state license. It's the state governments that require a state marriage license if you want to be legally married. In the United States marriage is a civil legal status and not a religious status. Religious clergy are permitted by the US government to perform marriages along with many other public officials and anyone else who obtains a one day permit in many states. However, if you don't obtain a state marriage license first then you will not be legally married.

What do you need to obtain a same-sex marriage license?

In jurisdictions where same-sex marriage is legal, there is no difference in the requirements or procedure.

Both of you need to go in person to the appropriate authority that issues marriage licenses in the jurisdiction you have chose. This is usually a Town Clerk or City Clerk. You will both need to present identification, pay a fee and fill out a form which asks, among other things, whether either of you have been married before. If you have been married before, you will need to disclose the way in which your previous marriage ended: whether in divorce or death of your previous spouse. There is a chance you may be required to present proof.

Both applicants for a marriage license will need to meet requirements, such as age and absence of a close blood relationship to each other. Specific requirements vary by jurisdiction. Some places have a residency requirement. Some places still require a blood test and some places have a mandatory waiting period before the marriage can take place. These are details that you will need to ask the clerk who assists you in the application process.

In the Christian bible is there a biblical basis to ban Polygamy?

No exactly. Polygamy is never forbidden in the Bible, and many honored prophets of the Old Testament were open polygamists.

Most Christians today believe that polygamy is immoral, but there are a small number of Christians who preach that polygamy is Biblical and accept the practice.

Another Answer:

There are not instances of polygamy in the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 7:2-3New International Version (NIV)

2 But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

And this strongly appears to be consistent with the Old Testament.

Genesis 2:24New International Version (NIV)

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In a lack of faith, Abraham listened to his wife and had Ishmael with her servant. After his wife died, Abraham took Keturah and had 6 children. But only Isaac, the child of his wife, became the child of Promise.

Moses is said to have had two wives but no indication if this happened before or after the death of his 1st wife. Yet, because Moses was called 'God's friend' and walked with God, it can be assured that his 1st wife had died.

Indeed, all men in the OT who are called righteous only had one wife. The practice of a King, to keep peace with neighboring peoples customarily took one of the other King's daughters in marriage. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines - yet he was never called righteous and many scholars wonder if he will be judged to life or the 2nd death because of his sins.

Just like divorce which occurred, God did not intend marriage to have multiple partners.

How does an American citizen marry her British boyfriend?

I married my American girlfriend by just coming to the USA and getting married. That's what my lawyer told me to do, it's the quickest way, then file for work permit etc.Work permit wait was 6 months.Green card was another 4 months, After two years of marriage file I-751 then permanant resident status with no restrictions.Make sure your passport has plenty of time left bring birth cert all schools qualifications.Welcome to America.

You can do the above, sure, but it is frowned upon, and wont always work. There have been cases where a UK citizen has gone to the US on the I-94 visa waiver from, got married to their partner, and applied for Adjustment of Status (AOS), and stayed in the US. Yes it is the quickest route, but it is far better legally to go the K1 or K3 visa route. Generally for AOS, you will need to prove WITHOUT DOUBT that you did not enter the US intending to marry, and that it was a spur of the moment thing. In some cases, your passport will be stamped with 'no AOS' upon your entry to the US, especailly if you mention a US Citizen boyfriend (and have a wedding dress with you!). The authorities do not really like this method, and seeing as the AOS would be only the first small step to legal permanent residence, it is best to do things 'by the book;, even though there will be a longer wait (generally 6 monthsish) and time appart sucks, it will set you up better in the long run. You can do it..but I wouldn't recommend it.

You can still travel to the US on an I-94 whilst the visa is being processed to visit your bf.

The below link has many postings on the pitfalls of this, and is a great site for any UK citizen who is planning on marrying their American partner and living in the US:
