What martial arts are most effective in a street fight?

The answer to this question would depend on the skill level of the practitioner. Western Boxing is considered by many to be the ultimate fighting science in the use of the closed fist. It has been studied by many martial arts masters. Many of whom have included it in their styles such as Fred Villari and Bruce Lee. A skilled boxer can be exceedingly effective and deliver devastating damage with it's combination of punches and footwork. Boxers however are limited to hand strikes alone. Martial Artists may employ the use of kicks, take-downs as well as grappling maneuvers to defeat their opponent. So if two opponents met with equal boxing skills, the addition of other martial skills could give him the advantage. That being said, a man with superior boxing skills can put a quick end to any confrontation before the use of any additional skills come into play.

There are many other martial arts that have far better hand skills than boxing. so i believe the answer wouldn't be boxing. boxing is a very brutal sport but it cant be considered a martial art.

What was their samurai man responsibilities?

These life-trained warriors were taught by pre-determined family members who were trained by pre-determined family members. These honors were passed down to both male and female decendents. No outside agents were permitted to deserve the honors reaped by these men from all citizens that they came in contact with in the daily travels. Not all of these warriors traveled on horse-back. Many felt that they received supernatural benefits from walking the roads and feeling the wind on their bodies. The armor they wore were made by only select people trained and blessed over years and apprenticed for even more years. This straw and bamboo were soaked and weathered to become like leather. Some swords made for these warriors were made of layered steel that was turned, struck and added to over a million times, and these were observed by selected older warriors. They were also blessed with layers of blood from other warriors from the past and re-incarnation was a big part of the warriors religion. Because no one ever really died, these swords were considered living icons and were given specific names and specific histories that were orally passed from generation to generation. True warrior swords are priceless.

How many hours a day do ultimate fighters train?

fighters or martial artists train up to 4 to 6 hours a day there is something that probably most people do not get. its not the quantity of time that matters but the quality. so if you train for 6 hours but can only have high quality for 1 hour then the remaining 5 hours are no use unless they are for endurance training. for example if you are learning a specific technique and you trained with high quality for the first 10 minutes then did 50 minutes with no concentration and low quality then you are destroying the quality of the first 10 minutes. so when learning techniques train only as long as you can maintain your quality and if you find you lost concentration then shift to endurance training. hope it helps.

How many calories do you burn in one hour of martial arts?

The "lowest impact" martial art, Tai Chi Chuan, you burn roughly 320, about the same as downhill skiing. In most others though, vigorous external ones, especially if they include cals in their curriculum, you will burn up to 800 in an hour. If you train with weaponry, some of which may be heavy, its effect on the muscles, is similar to that of weight asisted aerobics; you will burn up to 1,000 calories, and even resting you will keep on burning blubber because of muscle soreness. In both Kung Fu and Karate, weapons can be hard on the body if you're not used to them. Not because instructors are such sociopaths they spend their time whacking you; weapons are hard on the body because you are doing hundreds of repetitions with something weighing between 2 to 10 lbs. That may not sound like much, until you take into consideration the angle by which you hold something.

By far the harshest martial arts weapon, is probably the Tetsubo; it is a 30 lb Japanese club, that was designed to break horse's legs, and break body armor. I am not aware of any dojos however, that train in the use of that monstrousity. Again, to conclude; at the lowest level of impact, roughly around 320 calories per hour. If you are training with weaponry, such as a spear in Kung Fu, most of which are in fact heavier than they look, or, a Suburito in Kenjutsu, which weighs as much as a real Katana, if that is included in the training you will burn up to 1,000. However you do not study weapons, until you have reached black belt level or the equivalent. It is a sad reality of modern martial arts, that not even physically grown adults, have the psychological maturity to be "playing" with weapons. You need to prove to the instructor that you can use a staff without whacking other people in the head, or kamas without cutting yourself because you pretended to be in Lord of the Rings. State law requies most martial arts schools not to allow children under 18 to study edged weapons. In Japan, if through parental negligence, or dojo instructor irresponsibility a kid is caught wielding a Katana, you could go to prison for 20 to 30 years; naturally in east Asia they take martial arts weaponry a lot more seriously.

Japan for example, has an outright ban; you can only legally use them, inside the confines of a dojo, if an police officer catches you with even so much as an unsheathed Bokken (wooden sword) outside the confines of a dojo you can get arrested. I believe you can only use them, within dojos, or while filming movies but I do not think even movie bokkens are the real thing; the "wooden swords" in Japanese movies are in fact made of compressed bamboo. The actual metallic swords, are made with bamboo sheets, laminated to look like metal.

**** Actually there are martial arts that areonly weapons training where you don't have to be a black belt to participate, such as kenjutsu, iaijutsu, kendo, and iaido, as well as numerous others. Aikido for example often uses a bokken or iaito (a dull katana). Also, a suburito is not the actual weight of a katana, it is much heavier and longer and is used for building muscle and control. A bokken is fairly close to the weight and length of an actual, steel katana. I am a practitioner of kenjutsu. As for swords being banned in Japan, where did you get that information? They are banned in the UK, but I have never heard of them being banned in Japan, in fact there are still ceremonies that swords are a big part of. Do some research before answering.

What is the type of Korean martial arts?

Martial arts have been practiced in Korea for more than two thousand years but little is known about the country's early fighting methods. Wrestling, called ssierum, is the oldest form of unarmed fighting in Korea. Besides being used to train soldiers, it was also popular among villagers during festivals. Polished stone swords and arrow tips dating back to the Mumun period have been found. These were presumably not only used for hunting, but for warfare as well. Ancient Koreans didn't develop weapons-based martial arts in depth because iron wasn't introduced until 300 BC. Another reason was that Koreans, as with the neighbouring Mongols, relied more heavily on bows and arrows in warfare than they did on close-range weapons.

How early should you start your son in martial arts?

I think he has to be at least 8 or 7 to start this because they have to know it is not just about fighting it is also about inner peace and getting to love it and it be a daily thing not just something you do one time a month.

It depends on the school and the maturity level of the student. I have the minimum age set at 7, however, I will take younger if they can participate in a class and not be a hazard to themselves or others. I have had 4 year olds with better focus and attention spans than 12 year olds. If I hear of anyone fighting outside of class, they are going to be suspended.

Best martial art in a street fight?

What is "best" is always a matter of opinion. The objective of a Martial Art in a street fight is first to survive, and then to prevail with minimal or no injury to one's self. Most systems of Martial Art contain elements that would be successful in street self defense, and could be used effectively depending on the specific circumstances, environment, and other conditions. For example, grappling and ground-fighting can be effective in some cases, but when confronted with multiple attackers, street gangs, or armed attackers, it would be impractical to roll on the ground with one person while being vulnerable to attack from others. The effectiveness of any Martial Art is dependent upon the quality of instruction, the dedication of the student, and the correct application in real-life self defense. A person may be really good in a specific system and another may be bad in another system. It doesn't mean one system is better than the other.

What is the importance of bowing in Martial Arts?

BowingThey bow to look at their feet

Bowing ((o)jigi (お辞儀, おじぎ), (o-)rei (お礼)), is probably the feature of Japanese etiquette that is best-known outside Japan. Bowing is considered extremely important in Japan, so much so that, although children normally begin learning how to bow from a very young age, companies commonly provide training to their employees in how to execute bows correctly.

Basic bows are performed with the back straight and the hands at the sides (boys and men) or clasped in the lap (girls and women), and with the eyes down. Bows originate at the waist. Generally, the longer and deeper the bow, the stronger the emotion and the respect expressed.

Bows can be generally divided into three main types: informal, formal, and very formal. Informal bows are made at about a fifteen degree angle and more formal bows at about thirty degrees. Very formal bows are deeper.

The etiquette surrounding bowing, including the length and depth of bow, and the appropriate response, is exceedingly complex. For example, if the other person maintains his or her bow for longer than expected (generally about two or three seconds), it is polite to bow again, upon which one may receive another bow in return. This often leads to a long exchange of progressively lighter bows.

Generally speaking, an inferior bows longer, more deeply and more frequently than a superior. A superior addressing an inferior will generally only nod the head slightly, while some superiors may not bow at all and an inferior will bend forward slightly from the waist.

Bows of apology tend to be deeper and last longer than other types of bow. They tend to occur with frequency during the apology, generally at about 45 degrees with the head lowered and lasting for at least the count of three, sometimes longer. The depth, frequency and duration of the bow increases with the sincerity of the apology and the severity of the offence. Bows of thanks follow the same pattern. In extreme cases a kneeling bow is performed; this bow is sometimes so deep that the forehead touches the floor. This is called saikeirei (最敬礼), literally "most respectful bow."

When dealing with non-Japanese people, many Japanese will shake hands. Since many non-Japanese are familiar with the custom of bowing, this often leads to a combined bow and handshake which can be quite complicated to execute. Bows may be combined with handshakes or performed before or after shaking hands. Generally when bowing in close proximity, as necessitated when combining bowing and shaking hands, people turn slightly to one side (usually the left) to avoid bumping heads.

What percent of people in Korea do martial arts?

No, of course not. This is a "stereotype"-- when you generalize about all members of a group, even though people in that group might be very different. While some Asians study martial arts, it is not a requirement for every Asian, and many Asians never study them. Further, "Asian" can refer to people who are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, etc.

Certainly, some Asians have become excellent at Martial Arts, and the popularity of Asian movie stars like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan may give Americans the idea that all Asian men are masters of kung fu and karate. But in reality, Asian people are actually very diverse, and they have many different interests and many different cultural pursuits.
