Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is a branch of engineering that encompasses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power and the design, production, and use of machines and tools. Mechanical engineering involves application of the principles of dynamics, control, thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, materials science, electronics, and mathematics.

What are the uses of shear machine?

generally, it was used to shear mild steel, stainless steel,metal plate.

more info, you can see our web www.shearingmachine.org,we are a manufacturer fromChina

What is the shear strength for 304 stainless steel?

For most steels . . .

Shear Strength = 0.577 * UTS

You can also say S.S = 0.577 * Yield and that would be the strength against yeilding.

What mechanical equipment requires an Equipment use permit?

It would depend on the environment in which the equipment is being used

What is turbine rated speed and What is maximum speed rise of steam turbine?

Turbine rated speed varies mainaly on the factors of Generating frequency and means of coupling to generator (viz trough a gear box or directly coupled and no.poles in generator). For exmple a 50hz generting frequency and a bi-pole genarator the turbine speed is 3000RPM. The allowed speed rise also depends on turbine design and generator operational range. Generaly the speed rise is restricted to Maximum of 10% of the rated speed.

What is P1 Material?

P1 Material is the name given to Carbon Manganese Steel in the engineering industry

Why the mild steel have two yield points?

Low carbon steels suffer from yield-point runout where the material has two yield points. The first yield point (or upper yield point) is higher than the second and the yield drops dramatically after the upper yield point. If a low carbon steel is only stressed to some point between the upper and lower yield point then the surface may develop Lüder bands.

How do you prevent cavitation in pumps?

You have to increase the suction head, or decrease the speed of the pump. As you may know, cavitation happens when the static pressure at the pump inlet minus the equivalent pressure of the fluid velocity in the pump drops low enough to vaporize fluid. To prevent it, the static pressure needs to be higher or the velocity needs to be lower.

What is the difference between a fire wall and a fire barrier?

A fire wall is what protects and controls the incoming and outgoing network traffic. A fire barrier blocks more of the things that can come in and go out of the network.

Definition of moment of resistance of beams?

thats means load

In some countries (Greece for sure) by "moment of resistance" we mean Section Modulus, which is Z=I/y, where I: moment of inertia, y: distance from the neutral axis to the most extreme fibre

Is there any difference between astm a105 and astm a105n?

ASTM A105N is different from A105. The A105 is classed "as forged" as opposed to A105N where the 'N' stands for normalized i.e. it has been heat treated to remove the internal stresses caused by casting, forming etc. If a customer specifically asks for A105N then it will be for a good reason. The normalizing heat treatment will ensure the A105N has superior properties to that of the A105. The 'N' is not a category code, the A105 should be normalized if intended for use below -1 C. There are API regulations that go further into it that you should read up on, primarily API RP14E. Hope this helps

What is the part of a bell that hangs down and hits the side of bell?

The bell is considered a percussion instrument. The part of a bell that clangs the sides to make the noise is called the clapper.

How do you calculate the gross heat rate of a turbine?

Divide heat added to the boiler between feedwater inlet and steam outlet by the kilowatt output of the generator at the generator terminals. Rate expressed in btu. See article.

Is cold rolled steel rod harder than drill rod?

I believe drill-rod is harder than ordinary, cold-rolled steel - I cant give the specs to back that up definitively, but in my 14 yrs of industrial maintenance experience, I believe that to be correct.

+++

I agree if I am right in thinking that "drill-rod" is the material called "silver-steel" in the UK. This is an alloy capable of being hardened and tempered to make cutting-tools, spindles etc, but is pretty tough to machine even in its annealed state. Cold-rolled mild-steel in turn, is tougher than hot-rolled m.s. but I don't know if it is any stronger. That would depend on the specific alloy rather than process.

Why is caulking and fullering is done on riveted joints?

Caulking :TO make metal to metal contact

Fullering :To have rivet to part contact.

Who invented conveyor?

The first conveyor belt was invented by a man named Richard Sutcliffe in 1905. They used them in coal mines which caused a big transformation in the mining industry.

What is the difference between induced and forced draft cooling tower?

  • Induced draft --- A mechanical draft tower with a fan at the discharge (at the top) which pulls air up through the tower. The fan induces hot moist air out the discharge. This produces low entering and high exiting air velocities, reducing the possibility of recirculation in which discharged air flows back into the air intake. This fan/fin arrangement is also known as draw-through

    . (see Image 3)

  • Forced draft --- A mechanical draft tower with a blower type fan at the intake. The fan forces air into the tower, creating high entering and low exiting air velocities. The low exiting velocity is much more susceptible to recirculation. With the fan on the air intake, the fan is more susceptible to complications due to freezing conditions. Another disadvantage is that a forced draft design typically requires more motor horsepower than an equivalent induced draft design. The benefit of the forced draft design is its ability to work with high static pressure. Such setups can be installed in more-confined

    spaces and even in some indoor situations. This fan/fill geometry is also known as blow-through

    .

  • What is strain back effect in shaping machine?

    During shaping operation, the cutting tool exerts a force on the workpiece. This force can be resolved in two components(horizontal,vertical). Horizontal force is the cutting force. Vertical force causes the workpiece material to deform elastically. We know, an elastically deformed body regains its original shape after the force is removed. So, after the tool move past one elastically deformed section of the workpiece, the section is raised up as the force is removed from the section. This effect is called "Strain back effect".

    What is wpb and wpc?

    WP is prefix, which is given to all manufactured fittings which has been manufactured as per ASME B16.9 and also the dimensions of fittings match as per the code

    Reference ASMEB 16.5 Para 4.4.1

    Regarding B I am not sure need to explore still a bit

    What is tension and compression?

    Tension and compression takes place when an object has a force on another object. The tension is when the force is causing a pulling effect on part of the object. The compression is when the force is causing a contracting effect on part of the object.

    Can you gas weld with propylene gas?

    Yes, but it will take years for the base metal to get hot enough for any fusion welding.

    What is the hardness of 68 HRC mean?

    The Rockwell C Hardness system uses "HRC" as a measure of hardness for various materials. A hardness of 68 HRC is extremely high and will most likely be harder than simple steel.

    Formula for calculating the heat balance for steam turbine hall?

    The guaranteed heat rate, indicated on performance data table of power plant is calculated in accordance with

    the following formula:

    HR = (Qms x Hms - Qfw x Hfw + Qhrh x Hhrh - Qcrh x Hcrh - Qas x Has + Qmu x Hmu) x 3600 / W

    HR = heat rate [kJ/kWh]

    W = gross power output [kW]

    Q = mass flow [kg/s]

    H = enthalpy [kJ/kg]

    Subscript:

    ms = main steam

    fw = boiler feedwater

    hrh = hot reheat steam

    crh = cold reheat steam

    as = auxiliary steam extraction from turbine cycle for boiler users

    mu = make up water at condenser
