Who invented the first alcoholic drink?

Alcohol is a natural product of the action of yeast on sugars. It was no doubt discovered by a hunter-gatherer many thousands of years before writing was developed, almost certainly from eating -- or seeing animals eat -- fermented fruit. We have no record of the exact circumstances.

Is it bad to mix marijuana and alcohol?

Aside from weed being illegal and alcohol being damaging to our body...it's not recommended to drink and smoke at the same time. Both marijuana and alcohol are depressants, meaning they will eventually slow your body's mechanisms down. So one drug enhances the effects of the other. Drink too much, then smoke some weed and you may end up depressing your breathing to a dangerous level.

However, I've known many people that have used both drugs simultaneously and been fine. That said, maybe it's a good idea to look into other hobbies. You liver and lungs will thank you.

Drug or alcohol abuse begins when the user Avoids taking drugs or using alcohol regularly. correct or incorrect?

There is a difference between dependence and abuse. Someone taking a prescribed medication will often become physically dependent. If that is the case the doctor will taper the doses slowly down to avoid withdrawals.

Someone who is abusing alcohol or medications or drugs will come to rely mentally on the substance. People who are abusing a substance won't be able to take as suggested. They will take more often and for many reasons. Any reason will do sometimes. Usually it is to get loaded. Normal social drinkers don't ask themselves if they could be alcoholic and people who take their meds as described usually don't have a question of abuse in their minds. It's important to trust ones instincts. If the instinct says there may be a problem, then there may be. A doctor should be consulted in either case. There is no need for embarrassment as the doctor has seen it all before.

Can the use of soft drugs lead to the use of harder drugs?

Many people believe it can, but there is currently no scientific proof that marijuana (cannabis) is a "gateway drug" that leads to using harder drugs. This does not mean cannabis is safe for everyone. While many people will only smoke it occasionally or just for recreational use with friends, it should be noted that a certain segment of the population has what psychologists call an "addictive personality" and they are more likely to graduate from using cannabis to using cocaine or even heroin.

There has not been enough research yet to tell us which people will or will not move on from marijuana to cocaine or other substances, just as we do not know for certain which people will remain occasional social drinkers and which will become alcoholics.

Can you take alcohol with vicodin?

Vicodin contains acetaminophen, normally 500mg of it. Drinking alcohol along with acetaminophen can screw up your liver, especially if you drink more than 2 or 3 drinks a day normally. Most of the time and for most people, a glass or 2 of wine, 2 beers, or 2 mixed drinks won't kill you, but it's best to avoid alcohol entirely if you're taking anything with acetaminophen in it--and that's a LOT of different drugs including Tylenol, Excedrin, Vicodin, Percocet, etc. I've done it plenty of times with no harmful effects, but that was when I was young and stupid--it only takes once to kill you.

Drinking alcohol with Valium will intensify the effect of both the Valium and the alcohol. Again, one or two drinks won't kill you, but it might if you're behind the wheel of a car. Best to avoid one or the other.

Why students tend to use drug and alcohol?

Well statistically here are some numbers to look at from teendrugabuse.us

"Statistics for 2002 reflect a slight drop in teenage drug usage to 8.3 percent for overall consumption of all illicit drugs. Still heading the list as most commonly used drug for troubled teens was marijuana (75% of all teen users) followed by cocaine (0.9%) and marijuana combined with one of more other drugs (20%). Cigarettes were found to be a strong precursor for troubled teens to who used illicit drugs, representing about eight times the number to those teens who smoked (48.1%) and those teens who did not (6.2%). Gender differences play a role as well amongst teenagers, with a greater majority of male teens using illegal drugs (12.3%) than their female teenage counterparts (10.9%)

Alcohol, a legal drug restricted to teens only by age, proves both plentiful, available and popular among teens aged twelve through seventeen, with both casual and binge drinking reflecting a higher percentage of usage in college-age teens (GDCADA, 2004)."

What are the effects of alcohol after gastric bypass?

Alcohol is quite dangerous to people who have have gastric bypass surgery. Because the surgery bypasses the pyloric valve in the stomach, any alcohol that is consumed does not have the chance to mix with digestive juices in the stomach. Therefore, the "raw" alcohol flows directly into the small intestines (just as any fluid or food that is consumed after gastric bypass).

This has several negative effects for the bypassed individual.

First, this unprocessed alcohol is absorbed very quickly by the intestines. People report feeling an almost instant "rush" of intoxication (or that buzzed feeling) after drinking alcohol. It has been shown in studies that a bypassed person's blood alcohol level (BAL) goes up higher and quicker than their non-bypassed counterparts. A higher BAL has many poor effects on such things as judgement, emotional control, and motor control. If someone could drink one drink and be "fine" before their surgery, this may not be true at all after their surgery.

Second, the unprocessed alcohol hits a person's liver like a ton of bricks. The liver can only process about 1 oz of alcohol per hour whether it hits it fast or hits it slow. This means that the quickly absorbed "raw" alcohol just hangs around in a person's liver waiting its turn to be processed. While this is happening alcohol is doing the damage that alcohol does to ones liver, just at a quicker pace.

Last (at least for this answer), the alcohol that goes to the brain so quickly, doesn't get cleared out nearly as quickly as normal because the liver is working so hard. Therefore, a person's brain can be damaged much sooner than a non-bypassed person's brain. Intoxication literally has the word "toxic" in it for a reason. Alcohol is a toxin to the brain, the liver, and many other organs in the body.

I think that alcohol is a source of empty calories that a gastric bypass patient should simply bypass permanently. People have a gastric bypass to improve their health. Throwing alcohol into the mix does not help a person work toward that goal of a healthier overall quality of life.
