What does the CS switch located near the shift knob do in a Mercedes Benz C240?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

C= comfort, S= Sport

When your in C (comfort mode) the car drives like a regular luxury car. The suspension is soft, and the transmission shifts at lower rpm's, so your not revving high, basically use this mode for regular driving, it feels the best for day to day driving and will give you the best fuel economy.

S (Sport mode) is for when you want to have a little fun. The suspension will tighten up and become noticeably stiffer, and the car will accelerate into higher rpms before shifting. So you got a sport like feel, the car revs high in every gear and down shifts rather quickly as well. This mode drastically reduces your gas mileage though!

What does w s mean on the centre console of a Mercedes clk mean?

W - Winter driving / slows down the RPM's

S - Sport driving / widens the shift pattern and holds the gear longer before shifting

Why does your 88 RX7 idle obscenely high...like 5200 RPM?

When this happens its usually when there is air getting in to the engine when there shouldn't be

try to look in these areas...

possible vacuum leak - to idle that high it would have to be a very big vacuum leak

throttle plates sticking - not likely but does happen. you will have to take off the inlet ducting to varify that they a closing properly.

check ov the intake system to check that air can not get into the engine any other way other than through the throttle body.

after this check if there are any error codes.

check fuel pressure - shouldn't be higher than 50 psi.

if that doesnt shed some light on the situation hook a boost gauge up temporarily and see what the engine is doing - then give it a little rev see what the gauge does and then work from there.

hope this helps.

BEST ANSWER

When all vacuum leaks have be addressed and fixed.(COLD START SCREW "BETWEEN THE TPS AND IDLE SCREW" - JUST TAKE IT UP JUST UNTIL IT DECIDES TO NO LONGER ADJUST, THEN SCREW IT 1/16 OF A TURN AND LOCK IT DOWN).

Now it's time to baseline your Idle (make sure car is at operating temperature)

1. On top of the upper intake, there is a screw which is your idle adjustment screw. Screw it to the right until it can't go anymore(DO NOT TIGHTEN)

2. Adjust your TPS to the left as well (Just to the point where you no longer see it adjusting and then screw it to the right 1 - 1-1/4 turn.)

3. Start your car and if it drops and dies, adjust the idle speed screw to the left a little at a time.

Repeat step 3 until it finally fires up and stays on. Look at your tach and set it to 750 - 1000. I set mine at 1000 bencause it's smooth and i have a good throttle response at that but you set where you feel comfortable.
