Methadone

Developed in Germany in 1937, methadone is a narcotic pain reliever used as part of drug addiction detoxification. Due to its cheap cost and long duration of action, methadone is also very helpful in managing chronic pain.

Can you take methadone and still maintain employment?

Yes. If you are legally prescribed to it you definitely can. I wouldn't recommend telling people you are on methadone unless you absolutely have to. For example, if a doctor or dentist asks if you are on any prescription drugs, if a new job requires a drug test and asks on a form if you are on any prescription drugs or if you are joining the military or some kind of organization that would require you to tell them what drugs you are prescribed to. Just don't go around telling people that information about yourself because if it gets in the hands of the wrong person, they may try to steal it off you or something, people get very desperate when withdrawing from opiates.

Also, I wouldn't recommend taking methadone UNLESS you are prescribed to it by a licensed physician. Methadone isn't a drug to play around with or experiment. There are a lot of kids that are taking it and have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

Will soma show up on a mouth swab drug test?

People often have the misunderstanding that "blood test" is a universal term. Untrue. There are many different types of blood tests, each given for a specific reason or reasons. With that said, the medication "Soma" can be seen on a blood test only IF it is looked for. In other words, if you are going in for a standard cbc / blood test...they will not be looking for "Soma" and therefore it will not show up. If however you are taking a blood test to look for "Soma" or its metabolite (meprobamate), then YES the test will indeed be positive for the presence of the drug.

Is it safe to inject liquid methadone?

Yes, it is possible to make Methadone tablets liquid for injection. If you normally use 200mg good quality street-Heroin, it is enough with 20mg Methadone to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

Methadone tablets usually have a lactose-monohydrocloride additive. If you try to warm (cook) this with water it will become a gelantine substans unusable for injecting.

The trick is to use cooled equipment as well as cooled water (please for your own health use 9mg natriumcloride, sterile water that mimic the body's own water/salt mixture). DO NOT USE TAP WATER!!!

As cooler as better (above freezing point) to prevent binding to gelatin.

Mix it well, and you will get a lot of residue, but this is only "fill stuff" in tablets. (20 to 30 % of the Methadone will be left in the residue so eat this to get it all).

Use a quite large peace of cotton to filter when you fill the syringe.

Be honest to yourself regarding the amount you use a day because Methadone is much more potent than street-Heroin. If you try to use the same amount in milligrams you are likely to overdose.

You will NOT get a similar kick from Methadone as Heroin. Ever! It is definitely better to take Methadone orally to save your internal body from damages caused by this type of injection's.

Methadone (and Subutex) are the best way to get your opiate addiction under control. Miracles will happened if you are patient and use several month's to reduce doses. Depending of how long you have been addicted it can take up to a year (slowly and painless) stepping down to get totally clean.

This should be done in cooperation with a qualified physician if you can find one to trust. It is also possible to do this on your own, but not recomended because opiate addiction is exstreamly difficult to control by yourself. It demands an enormous portion of self-disiplin, but if you make it. You are definetly strong enough mentally to achieve anything in life. Just get clean first!

Good luck!

Is suboxone and methadone the same?

Yes, almost. Buprenorphine is sold in two forms: Suboxone and Subutex. The difference between them is that Suboxone has naloxone added to it. Naloxone is a partial opiate antagonist, meaning that it blocks the opiate receptors in your brain, so you cannot get high from either taking too much Suboxone, or from taking other opiates on top of the Suboxone. Subutex does not have the naloxone in it, so it is possible to take a lot of it and get high on it (it's going to be a crappy high, though...you're really better off taking hydrocodone or oxycodone, if you wanna get an opiate high), or to take other opiates like heroin or oxycodone on top of the Subutex, and get high from them.

How long does methadone take to relieve pain?

It can take a couple of days to get into your system. You have to give it time. Just because you take one or two tablets in the beginning and you feel nothing, doesn't mean you better take a few more. Methadone doesn't work that way. It has to build up gradually into your system. Then you maintain that level of methadone in your body by taking it the way the doctor prescribes it.

It is used as a long term pain reliever not for acute pain. If you do decide to ask about this medicine for chronic long term pain, make sure you ask a lot of questions. Make sure this is the medicine you want to use. It is highly addictive and you can't just stop cold turkey. The withdrawals are are terrible. Let the doctor wean you off of it.

How does methadone work?

Methadone treatment works for heroin addicts, but also for chronic pain and any other signs of addictions ************I have been on methadone for 5 years. Here is how it went for me: I finally told my MD I was addicted to hydrocodone (Vicodin or Lorcet). I said I didn't think I could quit cold turkey on my own, and wanted to find out more about methadone. My doc referred me to a nearby methadone clinic. I had an appt with an intake counsellor. I found out all about the program, what the fees were, rules, etc., and had the opportunity to ask questions. I went to have a physical as was part of the program. I came back next for the actual dosing of the methadone. They started me on 20mg, and every couple days went up. I ultimately stopped at 75mg, which is where I have stayed all these years. It took me several months of following the rules and going to counselling to get take out privileges, and after a year clean, I only had to go to the clinic every 2 weeks to pick up my meds. The clinic in NC only charged me $224 a month. When we moved to Maine, that figure rose uncomfortably to $340. So costs vary greatly. I have done well on methadone, I don't crave opiates, I don't have any withdrawal. I feel good, my moods are good. I feel how I would think "normal" would be for someone not experiencing depression or opiate addiction.

Can you be on methadone one day and be on suboxone the next day?

wait at least 48 hours, what ever you do , do not take any suboxone before this or you risk getting VERY VERY sick. The half life of methadone is around 60 hours, so if you can stand to wait 3 days (72 hours) than that is better, the longer the better really. You also need to have been gradually coming down off the methadone and need to go down as far as possible. You must be below 40mg but if you can go all the way down to 10 or 15mg than that would make for a smoother transition. You need to be totally honest with your suboxone doctor about when the last time you used was so he can then tell you when to take the suboxone. Trust me you do not want to play around with this. I have seen so many people coming off methadone think " I'll just go ahead and take a suboxone" when it had only been like 24 hours, and the went into severe withdrawals immediately and where in pure HELL for a few hours. No matter how bad you feel just wait wait wait as long as you can. At least 48 hours.

Why cant i feel my Oxycontin after being on methadone?

Methadone blocks the effects of Oxycontin and other opiates.

Why are you on Methadone and Oxycontin in the first place? And how much of each? Then you will have a more accurate answer than the above.

Well I might not be around to get your answer to my question so here it is:

Methadone is NOT an antagonist acting substance nor even a partial antagonist like SUBUXONE (buprenorphine). Methadone is used as replacement therapy for opiate addicts. It is typically more manageable and longer acting than other opiates.

If you are on both at the same time then you are feeling both of their effects and may have a higher tolerance now (which if you are not on methadone for opiate replacement, then you should talk to your doctor because you are on a quick and horrific road of opiate abuse if this is the case). If you were on Methadone and then switched to Oxycontin, it may be the case that your methadone dosage was stronger than the Oxycontin dosage you took and therefore you now have a higher tolerance.

What are the ingredients in methadone?

There is no such thing.. Methadone IS synthetic to begin with. It is a man-made synthetic opiate made in the 30's or 40's in Germany for military purposes. There are 2 types or methadone...regular methadone and methadose. There is no difference though in its chemical makeup. It is the same exact drug.

How much morphine in 50ml methadone?

Everyones "blocking" dose is different. It can depend on many variables like weight, height, metabolism, ect.. but for the average JOE the blocking dose for other opiates is usually between 60-80mg's, but can be as low as 30 or as high as 120.

If you take methadone will you be able to get high on herion?

Yes, methadone is an opiate blocker and will block the effects of heroine.

----------------------------------

Improvement

Methadone does not contain an opiate blocker at all. It has a cross-tolerance with opioids, and higher doses of methadone can reduce the high: but from first hand experience I can tell you categorically that methadone does not totally block the high you get from taking heroin.

Is methadone the same thing as trazodone?

No, not at all. Methadone is a pretty hardcore opiate, with notable effects lasting 24 hours for some. Trazodone is an old time anti depressant, now used more for its sedative effects in the treatment of insomnia. Trazodone can be taken easily in doses of 100 mg for sleep, while taking that much methadone could be harmful.

Can methadone cause swelling to the hands or feet?

Methadone can most definitely cause fluid retention by the body, so yes, it can cause swelling of the hands and feet even if you are not allergic to it. I had been on methadone for 5 years when I went cold turkey, and I lost 15 lbs of water weight the first week. I had been telling the doctor all along I wanted Lasix (a diuretic that makes you pee a lot), and they did not believe me that the methadone waas doing that. They sure did believe me after when I stepped on the scale at the docs office and showed the 15 lb wt loss!! **********Methadone can only cause swelling if you're allergic to it. The answer that has the asterisks by it is from another person who answered the question.

How long do you have to wait after taking methadone till it is ok to take a xanax?

Why don't you get a buzz on methadone maintenance?

The purpose of methadone maintenance is to treat opiate addiction and in some cases pain management. Methadone is not meant to produce an euphoric effect and if a buzz feeling results after taking methadone, that usually means it is too much.

Is it safe to mix Klonopin and morphine pills?

Benzos (Klonopin) and narcotics do not mix well. In even small doses the mixture can cause respiratory arrest.

Some pain management and surgical procedure patients are given a prescription for both, but they are told to take the Benzo for sleep and the narcotic for daytime pain.

Also, if or when you decide to stop taking them, Benzos are almost impossible to detox from - They change your brain chemistry, permanently.

What is Dilaudid and how long does it stay in your system?

The half life of dilaudid is approximately 2.3 hours. Let's create a chart

T(time passed since drug has been taken) and (D) for amount of drug in system at that given time.

T. D

2.3. 4

4.6. 2

6.9. 1

9.2. .5

11.5. .25

13.8. .125

16.1. .01625 (at this point undetectable on standard/extended urine screens). So as you can see after about 16 hours the drug is pretty much out of your system. Now you have to factor in how it was administered. If it is IV or snorted than this formula will be very accurate, if it was orally, in general as with all drugs, factor in more time to be safe, as oral administration of drugs results in longer detection times.

Does a 10 panel drug test detect alcohol?

No. A typical 8-panel drug screen looks for metabolites caused by:

  • Amphetamines (like meth, ecstasy)
  • THC (like marijuana, hash)
  • Cocaine
  • Opiates (like heroin, opium, codeine, morphine, Oxycontin)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Barbiturates (phenobarbital, butalbital, secobarbital)
  • Benzodiazepines (like Valium, Librium, Xanax)
  • Methaqualone (Quaaludes)

There is a separate test that screens for EtG in a similar fashion (EtG is the metabolite associated with drinking alcohol).

What happens if you take pills while on methadone?

If you have a tolerance for methadone and just suddenly stop taking it, you will begin to experience withdrawals such as nausea, body aches, hot and cold sweats, and diarrhea. You should slowly taper off of methadone instead of quitting cold turkey.

What is worse for you Oxycontin or methadone?

Methadone is a synthetic opiod used to treat people who are addicted to opiates and is also used for pain management in some cases. Oxycodone is a narcotic used to treat to treat pain only.

The reason Methadone is used to treat addiction is because of its long half life.

Can you smoke methadone and get high?

No. Plain and simple. It is much too small a dose to have any kind of Euphoria. I would say that at about the 20mg level is when you will start to feel a "high". This is for people who are new to methadone of course.
