Can you take acetaminophen if you are on depakote?
Funny you mention this. I am on the drug and took Tylenol earlier today... not feeling too good. I am noticing my mood take a down turn. Looked it up and it is listed as one of the medications you should not take with Depakote. Good to know now, will not be mistaken again.
When you are taking any medication and need to take another one such as something for headache or cold, then phone a pharmacist and they will tell you. I do it all the time.
Abilify and depakote together?
NO! Even though Topamax and Depakote are used to treat a lot of the same things, Depakote can cause interactions with Topamax. If your doctor prescribed both prescriptions to you, I would call a Walgreen's or CVS and ask a pharmacist. They usually have one specifically to answer questions about medications. But even the website for the makers of depakote and topamax said they shouldn't be taken together.

What could cause pressure and ringing in the ears?
All kinds of things, from ear infections to ruptured eardrums to ear squeezes to high blood pressure. If you think you or someone you know has an ear problem, seek professional medical advice and have it treated soon.
Tinnitus is the medical term for "hearing" noises in your ears. The noises may sound like ringing, blowing, roaring, buzzing, hissing, humming, whistling. Considerations
Tinnitus is common. Almost everyone experiences a mild form of tinnitus once in awhile that only lasts a few minutes. However, constant or recurring tinnitus is stressful and can interfere with your ability to concentrate or sleep.
Common Causes
It is not known exactly what causes a person to "hear" sounds. However, tinnitus can be a symptom of almost any ear problem, including ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, and injury from loud noises. Alcohol, caffeine, antibiotics, aspirin, or other drugs can also cause ear noises.
Tinnitus may occur with hearing loss. Occasionally, it is a sign of high blood pressure, an allergy, or anemia. Rarely, tinnitus is a sign of a serious problem like a tumor or aneurysm. Tinnitus is often more noticeable when you go to bed at night because your surroundings are quieter and you are more apt to be kept awake by even the sound of a soft ceiling fan or humidifier. Learn ways to relax. Feeling stressed or anxious can worsen tinnitus. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking. Get enough rest. Try sleeping with your head propped up in an elevated position. This lessens head congestion.
See you doctor if ear noises start after a head injury. The noises are associated with other unexplained symptoms like dizziness, feeling off balance, nausea, or vomiting.
There is no known cure for tinnitus. If the underlying cause is determined, then fixing that problem may take away your tinnitus (for example, removal of ear wax). Otherwise, measures to help you lessen or live with the noises are taken.
A tinnitus masker, a device worn like a hearing aid, may help. This works by producing low-level sound directly into the ear to cover or disguise the ear noise so that it is less bothersome. A hearing aid may help lessen ear noise and amplify outside sounds.
Medications such as anti-arrhythmic (usually used for irregular heart rhythms), antidepressants, vasodilators, tranquilizers, and anticonvulsants may help. Antihistamines (e.g., meclizine) are also often effective.
Sometimes, counseling may help you learn to tolerate tinnitus. When appropriate, you may be encouraged to consider biofeedback training. This is a method that helps you learn to control body functions by monitoring specific responses (such as tightness of a muscle group) and altering this response through relaxation.

What are the long term effects of Arnold Chiari Malformation?
If you or some one you has this, you have my prayers. It is a difficult path. I was diagnosed with this July 2012 after suffering headaches, blurred vision, and a loss of balance as well as a loss of feeling on the left side of my face and neck. It's is diagnosed by means of an MRI and is typically accompanied by a Syrnix (a pocket of fluid in the spinal cord). After 6 months of searching for the right surgeon, we found him in Detroit. Dr Fahim, was fantastic. The recovery will be painful, and plan on staying in the hospital for at least 4 days. This is not a easy or quick surgery. But I will say this, that after waking, the feeling in my face was returning.
As far as lasting effects, there will be a few. One, my vision never returned to where it was. I have slightly blurred vision when I look left. It worsens in the cold. If I look to my far left, my vision doubles more. Two, feeling in my face and neck have returned, but alas, not to the degree that once was. Of course Three, I have a MONDO scar on the back of my head and neck.
These, of course are all small in comparison to what could have been. If I had left the symptoms keep going, more nerve damage was going to happen, and remain permanent. This is something that can not be IGNORED, and must be corrected as quickly as possible by a surgeon that you trust, and has preformed this surgery many times before. Many things can go wrong, and will if you let it go unchecked.
These are just my long term effects. I'm by no means an example of every one. It will effect everyone differently. Be it the size of their Syrnix, the size of the Malformation, your after care, even the surgeon. They will all play a part in the lasting effects of the Chiari.

What is the best birth control for someone who suffers from migraines?
Condoms, spermicide, diaphragms.
All forms of birth control, whether pill, patch, implant, Nuva Ring, or injection - all deal with hormones. When you have migraines and take birth control, you are risking increasing migraine activity as well as a small increase in the risk of stroke.
For some women, birth control may help their migraines. For some women, there will be no difference at all. For some women, there is a dramatic increase in migraine activity.
Make sure your prescribing physician knows about your migraines and how often you have them before you begin birth control. Make sure your neurologist knows if you are taking birth control if you are being treated for migraine. Everyone needs to be on the same page.
What are hemiplegic migraines?
Hemiplegic migraines are a specialized migraine variant. They come with specific symptoms not seen in common or classic migraines.
There are two types of hemiplegic migraines, familial and sporadic.
Besides the normal migraine symptoms (photophobia, nausea, visual aura, etc..), people with hemiplegic migraines experience some or all of the following:
During the aura phase they may experience:
* The paralysis of the limbs on one side of their body (hemiplegia) * Numbness, tingling. * Motor weakness * Speech impairment (slurring or inability to find a word) * Impaired Consciousness (ranges from confusion to coma) * Fever * Symptoms of Meningitis
The symptoms of hemiplegic migraine can come on very suddenly. Because of this and the severity of these symptoms, and how they mimic many other dangerous problems such as stroke, it is recommended that hemiplegic migraineurs wear a medic alert bracelet.
The paralysis can last the entire length of the headache phase, the headache may start before paralysis begins, or head pain may be absent altogether.
The hemiplegic visual aura can be prolonged, and sometimes may even last weeks.
Currently, many of the abortive medications used in treating classic and common migraines are contraindicated in treating hemiplegic migraine. This is because of the stroke concern, as migraineurs who have such severe headaches with prolonged aura - have a higher stroke risk. For preventative medication, calcium-channel blockers tend to see the most success. So many hemiplegic migraineurs are being prescribed Verapamil, sometimes pairing that with Topamax to lower the frequency of the migraines even further.
It is essential to be working with a headache specialist when you have been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines.
Can miscarriages cause severe headaches or migraines?
During and after miscarriages, your body goes through a lot of hormonal changes. That can set off migraines.
A miscarriage is also cause for acute stress, emotionally and physically, and this can trigger both tension headaches or migraines.
If during a miscarriage your blood pressure shoots extremely high or low, this can cause a headache or trigger a migraine.
Blood loss caused by the miscarriage may cause severe headaches as well, due to anemia and, once again, low blood pressure.
It is important to bring this to the attention of your doctor.
If you are pregnant and begin having severe headaches suddenly, contact your doctor immediately to check if the baby is fine, or that you aren't beginning to experience preeclampsia.
If you had a miscarriage and begin having these symptoms, contact your doctor. There are things he or she can do for you, including: a blood transfusion if necessary, steroids to help stop the headaches and reduce inflammation, migraine medication, pain medication, blood pressure medication, the recommendation of extra iron, prescribing birth control pills in the short term.

Can you take Excedrin migraine while pregnant?
Excedrin Migraine, which is the same as regular Excedrin, contains three ingredients. One is Tylenol (acetaminophen), which is safe to take during pregnancy. The second is aspirin, which is not recommended during pregnancy. The third is caffeine, and Excedrin has about the same caffeine as a cup of coffee can have at its weakest. Caffeine usually seen as fine in moderation during pregnancy.
So, because of the aspirin, the answer is no.
However, you can take Tylenol. You can even take Tylenol with codeine or Vicodin or Percocet, so long as you are taking them in limited amounts and only when you absolutely need them. The dangers of opiates during pregnancy are few so long as use is not consistent enough to hook the baby on the medication.
