There are many brands of Infant formula...

Name Brands such as Enfamil, Gerber, and Similac which can be VERY expensive,

or Store Brands such as Babies R Us, Target Up&Up or Walmart's Parent's Choice. They are all nutritionally equal regardless of the name of the brand. The biggest difference is the cost.

Name Brand infant formula can cost $30 a can, and you can get coupons from the manufacturer, but they are usually only $4 or $5 off. The Store Brands can be as inexpensive as $12 a can, no coupon needed. How can Store Brands cost so much less? It's because of the marketing overhead. Name Brands give free samples to hospitals and doctor's offices, and someone has to pay for that, so they pass it on to the consumer.

Bottom line is, talk to your pediatrician, Breast feed if you can, be cause breast milk is absolutely best for baby, and if not, consider Store Brands as they will save you up to 50% off of Name Brands so you can buy other things you need for baby.

Organic Milk is good because it has natural vitamins & ingredients unlike the regular milk at the store that say '2% milk' or '1% milk'. The milk from the store is, nothing like Organic Milk. Store milk has preservatives & has many chemicals inside. I recommend Organic Milk.

You will need to go the pet store to get milk replacer. It's found in the dog or cat section. I recommend KMR, they have one that is goat milk based, which is the best for small animals. Do not just try to feed it regular milk from the grocery store, they will starve.

Milk boils out because -

Milk is a colloid that has many substances suspended in it such as protein, sugar and fat. When milk is heated slowly the proteins and fat get separated. Since protein and fat are light they rise to the surface of the milk and collect together in the form of cream.

Milk has a high content of water in it and when the milk is heated some of the water gets converted into vapor. Since the surface of the milk is covered by cream the vapor gets trapped below the cream layer.

As the milk is heated the trapped water vapor expands and pushes against the layer of cream. The cream layer is lifted up as the water vapor expands and finally the pressure of the water vapor bursts through the cream layer and when this happens milk boils over and spills out.

Water does not boil and spill out because -

When water boils, bubbles form at the surface of water and burst. For water bubbles to expand further the temperature must be high enough so that the vapor pressure exceeds the atmospheric pressure or else the water vapor bubbles shrink and vanish.

If you want to try making cheese, use fresh milk, stale milk will likely have bacteria that will result in poor cheese.

That's the standard answer. But we had a thunderstorm last night, and the milk we had left out on the kitchen worktop is cottage cheese this morning. It wasn't fresh, but would have lasted another day or two. Perhaps in the atmospheric conditions which produce thunder, milk goes off sooner than at other times.

You could test for fat concentration, but that could be fooled by adding other oils.

You could test for protein, but that could be fooled by adding proteins, or even just by adding chemicals that come up the same on the tests (there are many)

You could test density, but for the same reasons, this won't tell you either.

You could take the milk to a microscope and do a visual confirmation, but this would be very time consuming and random, and wouldn't pick up solutes.

You could test for poisons and other chemicals individually, but for each one you test, that's more time and money spent. Test for lead, test for every possible pesticide.

You could just feed a rat on it and see if the rat dies (the old method); but that will only tell you if it's extremely poisonous (might still kill a human without killing a rat).

All different types of milk have pretty much the same amount of vitamins A and D, as well as calcium. All of them will provide what most people need for children's growth and strengthening of the bones. Younger children benefit from full milk
