First you need to download the skin. A website called minecraftskins is the most popular one. The link can be found under "Sources and related links" below. When you have found and downloaded a skin that you like, go to Minecraft's home page and log in. Click on "profile" on top of the page and choose the skin you downloaded.

If you go there u can look at what other people designed or create your own. I usually use the other peoples designs Then edit them once your finished with editing or making your own look up there should be a button that says Save click then give it a name then it says description u can put anything into there and then it gives you a bunch of links u want to go to the one that says link to the skin pull that up in another tab then make the window smaller and then pull the weird design and put it on your home screen then set it there and go to minecraft.net and log in as yourself and then at the top click profile then you scroll down to skin and find ur skin and click upload then ta da its changed

You cant make a couch as such, but you can place a stair block and than put signs on the sides.

You may have hit the mark on minecraft where you cannot mine anything, whether you use anything or not..... have you tried moving and mining?

Yes and no. There is a free version, which allows you to create anything you like in a peaceful world - also playable online. or there is minecraft alpha, the survival game. this is not free and involves crafting and mining to survive the creatures that lurk in the night and sometimes day.
Well their is a possibility you could go for a website and play but if you want to the full version u must pay for it because you need to register mincraft

You collect water with a bucket :) right click on a water source block to pick it up

If you are on a online server and have the authority to teleport then type /tp player to teleport to them. This also works the other way around

or make an obsidian portal

soo what is obsidian? its when you mix water and lava and you need a diamond pickaxe or you will not get the obsidian and it will take exactly 15 seconds to mine it with a diamond pick, sometimes water and lava will make cobblestone

now you need a flint and steel

now with your obsidian (get atleast 15 peices) make a 6 blocks tall by 4 blocks wide but do not fill it in, make it like a frame then take your flint and steel, point it at a peice of obsidian in the portal and right click , if done correctly then you should see a purple thing inside the obsidian frame then just step in, wait a few seconds and your off to the nether

Buy the game, download the portable launcher, then run it once to download the game files. Once the game files are downloaded, you can play it offline.

Anyway, you can't get Minecraft for free legally.
