Is there any evidence the Mallory and Irvine succeeded?

There are a couple of pieces of evidence in favour of that, but most of the evidence suggests they didn't. It seems more or less certain that they did not have enough oxygen for them both to make it, so the only possibility was that Mallory (the better climber) would have gone on alone even if they had managed to climb the barely-climbable Second Step, but when his body was found in 1999 he had rope burn injuries meaning that they were still tied together when he fell. Recent analysis of metereological records kept by the expedition also shows that the storm which occurred shortly after they were last sighted caused a catastrophic drop in pressure greater than the one that caused several deaths on Everest in the 1990s, and was the probably cause of their death. The two pieces of counter evidence are slight but intriguing. When Mallory's body was found he had his goggles in his pocket, which suggested they were still climbing at night, so would have had time to get there; and Mallory's wallet, which was otherwise in good order, no longer contained the photograph of his wife Ruth which he had promised to leave on the summit.
