not all are. if you want to do dirt jumping i recommend you do not use a normal mountain bike. get a proper dirt jump bike. i used a felt q520 xc bike to dirt jump and the forks broke and i took it in and the mechanic said i had damaged the frame and it was close to snapping.

In all probability - no. A full-suspension bike at that price level will be very heavy, with very little adjustability. It'll do fine fine for pottering around the neighboorhood, but any kind of regular riding will quickly leave you wanting more.

So, it's not good enough to be taken off road( where the suspension can do you some good), and if you stay on road, all the suspension does is add weight and flexiness to the frame.

For utility oriented road use you'd be far better off with a rigid frame, rigid fork and some fenders and maybe a rack on the bike.

That's not determined by the bike, but by the make & model of the brakes used - and that can change between the different versions/build year of the bike. If you look at your bike there's usually a brand name on the brake, possibly a model name too. That'll help you figure out which type of pads to get.

Pivot is simply tech speak for a joint, or a hinge. For a (suspension) MTB pivot usually refers to the point(s) that the rear suspension moves around.

The most common opinion is probably that MTBing started in Marin County, California. A group of people there started riding in the woods, and every time a bike broke they'd try something different when they repaired it. It's fast, it's fun, and not having to pedal uphill means you can do it w/o being super fit.

You seem to be a beginner since your looking for a 500 dollar dirt jumper, and your best bet will be a KHS DJ 05.... If that dosent satisfy your taste go onto Pink Bike...

It's no trouble at all using supposedly rim brake rims with disc brakes, nothing will happen because of that. But your hubs has to be able to take a brake rotor and your fork/frame has to be able to take a brake caliper if you want to put disc brakes on your bike.
