there are many formats that you can burn a CD in. the most common is a standard CD with CD codecs, which almost all CD players can understand. another common format is the great mysterious "MP3 CD" this is basically just a regular CD bust instead of having to convert the MP3's on your computer to a CD codec, you can just leave them as they are. While it is convenient and fast to burn this type of CD, use caution. not all players can read this codec.
now there is another kind of MP3 CD. known as a "data disc." this kind of disc is really not a CD at all but acts more like a storage device. well actually it IS a storage device. this kind of disc is where files are placed directly onto the disc without any formating or conversions. There are few players that can read this type of disc, but, if you have the ability to i suggest that you try it. a great benifit is that instead of your burning restriction being time, it is data size. which is 700MB. about three to four more times as much music as a standard CD.

wav and mp3 are both just different types of files. You can convert one to the other(a free conversion program is Handbrake.) Something to take into consideration though is that .wav files tend to be much higher quality but also way bigger files, so converting .wav files to .mp3 makes the file smaller but a bit lower quality. Also there isn't really a point in converting from .mp3 to .wav.
