As a member of the German Air Force, I took an English language course in 1964 in Lackland Air Force base near San Antonio, TX. Was Muammar Gaddafi a Muslim?

Yes, he was a Muslim but he wasn't a great one in my opinion.

Answer:

No one who does what he did can be called a Muslim. We judge by outward behavior, and it is clear that a person who shows such outward hatred for Islamic teachings - and persecutes Muslims even just for going to pray at the mosque, cannot really be a Muslim.

Interestingly enough, since his mother was Jewish, I personally know some Jews who consider him Jewish. By blood, only, of course, because even by Jewish definitions he would not have been considered a good or religious Jew.
