Multiple Births

Multiple births happen when two or more fetuses are developed during a pregnancy. Two fetuses, or twins, are common; but eight fetuses, or octuplets, are rare. Premature birth is most likely to happen to babies born from a multiple-birth.

If your mom is a Siamese twin do you have two moms?

Amazingly enough you just brought out a memory that I had forgotten I had. Back in the fourth grade we had a book in our class called Ripley's Believe It Or Not. It contained some amazing facts that were all true. One of them was these two Chinese Siamese Twin guys joined at the waist before doctors had the ability to separate Siamese twins. The two guys lives a long life fathering children with twin women (not Siamese.) So you could say that the kids had two fathers. I don't recall if they had separate penises though. If they did then I would say that each child had only one father. If they didn't then each child had two fathers. You might want to research the Chinese Siamese twins as I am sure that you can still find info on them. Ripley's Believe It Or Not had a picture of them in the book. Good luck and enjoy your research as much as I enjoyed your question.

Does a twin heifer produce twins?

Not necessarily. It is interesting to note that abnormalities are quite common among the Bovidae (Cow family) I have seen both living and stuffed examples of Siamese Twin calves, a Two-headed Bull ( really the Head was , err like, split down the middle)- and a Holstein cow with six legs ( about five functional) named, what else Mercedes- MB made 6 wheel staff cars for the Army and Police. Nice cars! Maybe this is because of the Mass-production angle of so-called Factory-Farming. rejects and mis-strikes are inevitable. I can"t resist concluding with the jingle- The Cow Can"t help it!

What is the percent of fraternal twins vs identical twins?

Fraternal twins, or dizygotic twins, occur when two separate eggs are fertilized by two sperm cells, making them genetically similar like regular siblings. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, result from a single fertilized egg that splits into two embryos, creating genetically identical individuals. The occurrence of fraternal twins is about two-thirds of all twin births, while identical twins account for about one-third, leading to a rough ratio of approximately 67% fraternal to 33% identical twins.
