Your model 1897 was made in 1898, according to the serial number records that remain. The value can range from $75 for a common 12 gauge field model in poor condition to $3000 for an excellent condition black diamond trap model. The most common were field grade guns in 12 ga., typically they came with a 30" barrel, full choked. The "bluing" finish on the metal is usually worn off the early ones or, if they were stored for long periods of time, it has turned to a brown 'patina'. With the original stock and forestock free of cracks, these are worth approximately $400 in good condition. Add $100 for 16 ga. Add $200 if in like new condition. Riot/police models are worth an extra $200 (look for 20" barrel and metal buttplate). Military "trench" models are worth an extra $400 - 800. Solid frame versions (as opposed to the later take-down design) are worth an extra $100. Beware of fake riot, trench, and trap models.
500-800 depending on condition and wear
50 dollars tops. Mass produced poor material
I might disagree about the quality. It's been durable and dependable since day one. Shooting Super X 3" slugs it's dead-on at 50 yards.
CCC stands for Civilian Conservation Corps, it was created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 to create jobs for the American men who could not find work in any other field during the depression. The men could sign up for any length of time, usually it was farm boys who could be away from the farm for a few months at a time. They were paid a small salary with room and board. They were given the basic tools they would need to build a few buildings, information center, toilets, camp sites, picnic areas and roads. They had to cut the timber and hewn the lumber themselfs. They did not have drawings or the help of architects, engineers. They built with what they found on site. Some of the buildings are put together with out nails. They found the most scenic areas for the picnic areas and the most unobtrusive areas for the buildings. They used rocks to blend the buildings into the landscape. They built dams to form pools where there were natural springs. Today most of our state and national parks are located where the CCC started. Most of our roadside parks have remnants of the CCC original work. For men that were not in construction, they did a fantastic job. The buildings are still perfect for the area and a wonderful addition to the parks. There are two websites which will help. www.nps.gov and www.cccalumni.org
Well since there was no specific city in Maine that you wanted to know I just calculated the distance of New Haven, CT and Bar Harbor, ME. The distance between Bar Harbor and New Haven is 319 miles, that would be 513.27 if you're using kilometers.
The distance between the above mentioned places is 80.9 miles approximately. This distance is straight path from one place to the other place. There might be a slight difference between the actual distance and the above mentioned distance because of the route chosen.

if you drive straight through...only stopping for gas then it's about 20 hours
That is not true. I made it from newhaven county to flagler beach Florida in 15 not quite 16 hours. That was stopping for gas, bathroom breaks and a picnic lunch with my family at a rest stop. If i drove straight through I could have done it in 13 maybe 14 hours.
