It is actually the Niagara River. It has a couple of small tributary streams, but mainly carries water from one Great Lake to another.

The elevation change across Niagara Falls is 326ft. The falls are a natural outlet for Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. May thrill seekers have lost their lives trying to conquer the falls in a barrel.

The first bridge was built over the Falls in 1848. In 1969 a temporary dam was built to clear away rock debris, later other areas were filled in (1955) or permanently dammed (1980s). The Falls themselves, however, are a natural occurrence, and were not originally built by any mortal man. :)

In the US, Niagara Falls is a National Heritage Area. It stretches the boundary of Wheatfield, New York on the US side. Niagara Falls is not a Canadian National Park.

There are two Niagra Falls. One is in the Southern-Eastern portion of the Canadian province of Ontario and the Other is in the Northern-Western portion of the US state of New York. They are both the same place but there are two sections of the falls. One in Canada and one in America. The name is also used for two townships one in Canada and the other in America. The most commonly seen (on TV) falls in the Canadian falls, also called the Horseshoe falls due to its shape. The American falls is known as the "straight falls" due to its shape. There is also a bit of other info but I am not sure is relevant or not-the falls are divided by Goat Island into the American Falls, 167ft high, and the Canadian, or Horseshoe, Falls, 158ft high.

The American Falls are 70 feet due to the rocks being at the bottom but if they were not there it would be a 93 feet drop from top to bottom.

The Canadian Falls are 167 feet so the American Falls are more than half the size of the Canadian Falls.

OF COURSE! They are just not stupid enough to actually go down the falls! We have brown trout, lake trout, king salmon, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, walleye, and muskie. I have even caught a rainbow trout here and there. But this is just the large game, don't forget the smelt, minnows, sunfish, blue gills, catfish, and pike!

Niagara Falls has earned a grisly reputation as the suicide capital of the U.S., second only to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

Experts estimate there are between 20 to 25 suicides at the Falls each year.

In 1996, local historian Paul Gromosiak compiled a list of 2,780 known suicides at the site between 1856 and 1995.

It became so prolific that in 1991 the American Journal of Public Health commissioned a full report.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question, but here's the answer to the question I think you are asking: Urban (from the latin urbs, urbis) means having to do with a city Rural has to do with the suburbs (sub is latin for under, urbs being city - literally under the city), which is the area in the countryside, outside the city. NYC being the bustling hub of activity it is, NYC is urban.

Personally, I would have to say Welland, Ontario.......if you're talking about the Canadian Niagara Falls. If you're talking about the American Niagara Falls, then I would have to say Buffalo, New York

On the Canadian side you can walk along the river and view both the Horseshoe Falls and the American falls for free. The cost is in getting there, and that depends on where you are traveling from.
