* An obstetric nurse assists in obstetric theatre. Obstetrics being the medical field that deals with pregnancy and childbirth. Procedures in theatre include Cesarian section, ERPC, manual removal of placenta MROP, difficult forceps and ventous delivery as well as any difficult suturing that needs to take place. An Obstertic nurse will assist as scrub nurse for these procedures, making sure (with the help of the circulator) that the correct instruments are handed to the physician and that swabs, needles and instruments are accounted for. The obstetric nurse is also responsible for dressings, fluids and aftercare of the patient immediately following any procedure. Other duties include adequate stock of instruments and other supplies used in theatre and ensuring correct documentation of all procedures within theatre.

How many credits you need depends on what school you are attending. However, it also depends on if you want to be a LPN or an RN. As a LPN Labor and Delivery nurse, you go to school for about a year. As an RN, you can do either an Associate's degree for 2 years or a 4 year Bachelor's degree.

Hospitals tend to pay less but give you more hours, $11.00 to $18.00 an hour, usually 12 hour shifts, of course this depends on your experience and where you live. Clinics and Dr's Office tend to pay about the same, clinics have 8 to 12 hour shifts and Dr's office have 8. Home Health agencys tend to pay LPNs anywhere from $16 to $30 per pt or hour depending on the agency. Home Healthy Agencys also pay per mileage as well. Depends upon if you want to become a LPN or a RN. A LPN takes around 18 months of school and clinical training. You learn and then go to local hospitals, clinics to get hands on training. For a registered nurse depends on you if you want an associate degree or a BSN. Associate degree takes two years of college and nursing classes and clinical rotation. A BSN takes four years of college and clinical rotation. Being a nurse is well worth the effort if you really enjoy helping people and want to give to the community. The LPN is skilled in many areas of nursing and depending upon the state or area they are working can do (more or less): wound irrigation, dressing changes, giving a patient medications ordered by a doctor (including injections), assessing a patient for problems, assisting a patient with the activities of daily living, and educating patients. Also in some areas the LPN is also allowed to start IVs or give IV medications (again, this depends upon the state or area the LPN is practicing in). The LPN is almost always required to work under a doctor, registered nurse, or advanced practice nurse (a nurse who has gone on for more licensure and schooling above the standard RN duties).

flight nurses are well experienced nurses in intensive or emergency care (3 years prior) who fly for aeromedical companies. they invest time, such as 12 and 24 hour shifts to work, although they may do zero flights. the nurse is the "doctor" until arrival to the medical facility. the rn makes the decisions a doctor would, which is the reason why they must be experienced and certified in special criteria, such as pals and atls. flight nurses are special nurses and require an internal desire. i worl in a trauma center and many of our rn's fly; it is an excellent job; the ones who fly make the best nurses, in most cases.

Pulse - may be tachycardic for same reasons as above

oxygen saturation - will probably be low, need to apply O2 therapy, and get SPO2 monitor on.

Pain - morphine (opioids) will decrease pain but also cause respiratory depression.
