Depending on the year of the car, and (for later models at least) whether it is 8 or 16 valve, the gap is either 30-thou (0.7mm) or 40-thou (0.8mm) If your car has 2 or 4-electrode spark plugs, it is usual for these to be replaced if the gap is excessively large.

whats the worst that can happen? you can bend valves depending on how you handle the motor... i just purchased an astra estate 1600i with a snapped cam belt and i replaced the belt and still driving like a dream.

Maybe has something to do with the thermostat, especially if it idles low. I removed mine because of overheating and the same things happens to me. Could be your timing if you fiddled near the timing/fan belt or most probably an electrical fault that will take you a long time to figure out (if other electrical components start behaving funny then take it to an opel auto-electrician cause it will only get worse trust me). look on the side wall of your tires by the rim, its almost guaranteed to be on every tire, if for some odd reason its not and you still have the tires that came on the car when it was brand new you may be able to look at the sticker on the inside of the door frame.

It means that your car is due for an inspection. It is built in on a timer. If your service it yourself or not at all you can switch it off yourself. Its in the owners manual.

If you have lost a sufficient amount of coolant this will stop the heater working because there will be no hot water in the heater rad.

I Think there must be soemthing wrong with one of your valve or valves, so you need to do your top and replace the valve or valves that are faulty.

Opel astra is an excellent , stable ,fast and very strong car .

But there is one problem I as an owner found ,it's that opel astra is slow a bit in low gears ( first and second ) but in high gears it's very fast and stable in high speeds.
