Oxygen Sensors

Also called as the lambda sensor, an oxygen sensor measures the proportion of oxygen in liquid or gas. Scientists use this electronic device in measuring respiration or production of oxygen. Oxygen sensors are also used in automobiles.

How many miles do you have to drive before inspection after oxygen sensor is changed?

I was told it varies with the vehicle's Make i have Ford i was told to drive 40 miles we drove 55 so we were told to drive 40 more miles haven't done that yet. i think the o2 sensor has to accumulate enough carbon before it's considered "Ready".

Where are the O2 sensors on a 2007 Chrysler 2.7l?

There are four in total. One before and one after the catalytic converter on each side of the engine.

How many oxygen sensors does the 2001 LX have?

Ford, Honda, and Lexus all offer cars with variants designated as LX. This question cannot be answered unless the make and model of the car are specified.

What does upstream and downstream mean in business?

Upstream and downstream refers to the supply chain of an industry. For example, if you're looking at a distribution plant then the manufacture would be downstream and the retailer would be upstream. Events or processes that happen before whatever is being looked at is downstream and whatever happens after is upstream.

Why do oxygen sensors go bad?

its cheaper to manufacture a part that is not of high quality and sell it at a lower price. This way high volumes of sales can be achieved because the lowest price sells, people are cheap and cars are manufactured so that they hold up during their warranty period.

There for it goes bad because there is no money in developing one that lasts a lot longer. The ceramic bits break because the thing is suffering a lot of heat changes and the unburnt gasses themselves will damage the sensor.

How many oxygen sensors does a 5.7 Chevy have?

Depend on the year, and vehicle. There will be either 2, or 4. Half before the cat, and half after.

Where is O2 sensor bank 1 position 2?

Bank one is the side of the engine with cylinder number one. Position two is after the catalytic converter.

How many oxygen sensors does a 98 trans am have?

your trans am has 3 oxygen sensors one on each exhaust manifold and one after the catalytic converter

Where is heated oxygen sensor bank bb 1 sensor located acura 97 2.5tl?

Acura TL 2.5 litre with straight 5 cylinder engines has only one exhaust manifold similar to 4 cylinder engines. Hence, it has only one bank. Therefore, it is fitted with two oxygen sensors only. The first one is around the exit of the exhaust manifold (follow the manifold to the start of the pipe) and the second one screws into the catalytic converter. The first sensor is called bank 1 sensor 1 and the second one is called bank 1 sensor 2. Hope this helps.

What is the cost of installation of an oxygen sensor?

It cost me $850 to put 2 oxygen sensors on my 2000 i30 Infiniti at Miller Infiniti. I had to do this because my check engine light was on and a smog test was due. It would not have passed if I did not do this. They are probably "crooked", but what can you do?

Location of bank 2 sensor 1?

Oxygen Sensor (Ford Expedition, Ford F-150, Navigator)

There are actually (4) O2 sensors on your truck. If you look inside the wheel wells behind the fender liner, right about where the frame is one O2 sensor, the other is underneath the truck about half way back in relation to the transmission. If you see where the exhaust joints together, you went about 6" too far.
When you start looking at the O2 sensors, they are normally numbered something like "Bank 1 Sensor 1" Bank 1 is on the passenger side; Bank 2 is on the driver's side. Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor (near the frame, between the block and the cat) and Sensor 2 is near the Y-pipe (downstream of the cat).

Normally it is the upstream sensors (sensor 1) that go first. They see the harshest conditions.

You will need;

Oxygen Sensor Socket

Anti-Seized

Penetrating Oil

I have even used a small plumbers propane tank and heat it up and it help get them free.

Sometimes it will take 15 minutes or take a few hours it depends on your luck…

What does and O2 sensor do and will it damage car if not replaced?

The O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) measures the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust gas. For proper combustion to occur, you need 14.7 grams of air per 1 gram of fuel. The car has sensors to measure the amount of air flowing into the engine, and can take a pretty good guess at the amount of fuel going into the engine, so it can do a pretty good job of keeping the air to fuel ratio around the 14.7:1 mark. When the engine is cool or under heavier load, that's what it does (it may even run rich, or more fuel than needed, for extra power). Once the engine warms up, and you're cruising, it will go into closed-loop operation. At that point, it uses the O2 sensor to sense the amount of oxygen in the exhaust, and fine tune the amount of fuel going in. If the O2 sensor is not working, it can't do this fine tuning. So long as it stays close to 14.7:1, you're ok. However, if it starts wandering, you can have problems. Too rich and your catalytic converter can destroy itself. Running rich will release a lot of unburned hydrocarbons (fuel) because there isn't enough oxygen to burn them. Those will go into the catalytic converter, which will do its best to get rid of them, but the better job it does there, the hotter it will get, and could melt. You'd likely have problems with any emissions testing. Plus, your gas mileage will suffer. On the flip side, if you drift lean (not enough fuel), your exhaust temperatures will rise (unless you go way to lean, in which case you may start misfiring) and you might get your cat (or your engine) too hot, with obvious consequences. The extra heat and oxygen will allow the formation of increased levels of nitrous oxides (another emission problem). The only good side to this is that running lean can help your fuel economy (assuming everything else in your car can handle it). So yes, a malfunctioning O2 sensor can damage your car.

Where is the oxygen sensor located on 2006 Chevy Equinox?

Oxygen sensors are located on before and after the catalyst converter on top of the tipe pipes and after the catalyst converter on the side. It looks like a spark plug.

Where is the heater oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 located on a 1999 Honda civic dx 1.6L?

The bank 1 sensor is located front and center on your engine. It looks somewhat like a spark plug. It has 3 wires leading into it from a wiring harness located about 12 inches to the left of the sensor. It is at the top, front of the engine, partially covered by your exhaust shroud.

How can you tell if your car is a California emissions type?

A dealership can tell you if you give them the VIN number. usually if look under the hood, there is vehicle emissions label that will state that the vehicle is legal for sale in California, or that the vehicle conforms to California regulations.

Where is the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor located?

Bank one is the side that includes cylinder number one. Sensor two is post catalyst.

What is Meaning of upstream and downstream partners?

Supply chains are the suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and transportation modes that move products and services from the source of components and raw materials to the customer. Product flowing from the source toward the customer is flowing downstream. Activities that are performed previous to a specific point on the supply chain are upstream activities. Would an oxygen sensor affect nox reading?

No it will not because NOX is in the engine and picks up spark knock and the ECM adjusts the timing as needed. The O2 Sensor is in the exhaust and measures the air to fuel ratio then the ECM adjusts.
