What are the symptoms of a bored parakeet?
The most obvious symptom of a bored budgie or cockatiel is feather-plucking. Parrots in general are among the more intelligent of the bird species, and they need activities to keep them stimulated. If activities are lacking, they resort to feather-plucking, pulling out their own feathers until they look bald in places. This problem is easily alleviated by giving the bird lots of attention, and providing a variety of toys, especially bells and climbing frames.
What will happen if parakeets tail feathers were pulled out?
As long as they were pulled completely out and not broken off at the base, they should grow back in. It will take a couple of months or longer, but they should come back.
Yes, no meat at all. They need parakeet seed or pellet (pellet is alot better) with daily fruits and veg. Change the fruit and veg every day.
The seed or pellet should also be changed daily so give them just a small handful to start. Water at all times, changed every day.
No, he is not sick, although he might be a little bored, he is just changing his old feathers. Try to spend more time softly talking to him and ruffling his head feathers to calm him down. If he starts plucking out his feathers a lot, contact a vet without hesitation.
Can you use paper towel for the bottom of your parakeets cage?
Yes, and it is better for them than newspaper because of the die in newspaper ink.
It is difficult to tell the gender of a bird by their feather colour in most species.
Generally, males are more colourful than females. This is so that males can attract a female to mate with.
The best way to tell the gender of a parakeet over 12 months old is to look at their cere. This is the fleshy part of skin around their nostrils.
The cere of a male parakeet is blue or purple-ish.
The cere of a female parakeet is white, tan or brown.
If your parakeet is under 12 months, the cere may not be properly developed yet, therefore the best way to get the gender is to have the bird examined by a professional, such as a vet.
Male and female parakeets also have different behaviours.
Males tend to be more active and social. They tend to bob their head a lot and they sing often.
Females are bossy and may pick on males. They are louder than males but do not sing often.
Why are Monk Parakeets an invasion species?
the monk parakeet, also known as the quaker parrot, are reportedly responsible for 30% of the corn crop destruction. In the US, they have been known to build huge colony nests which interfere with utility cables and towers. Because of the potential of becoming a major agricultural pest, they are banned or restricted in several states. Connecticut, for example, bans the sale or breeding of Quakers. This problem became a major concern when Quakers were being imported in 1993 in greater numbers, and many got into the wild.
What does a parakeets sperm look like?
It's a reddish color. Trust me. My aunt had a bird named "Rampa" that used to hump the Christ outta his little birdie mirror the nut red all over it.
Is it normal for parakeets to sleep upside down?
Yes, it's completely normal. Parakeets tend to sleep upside down if there isn't any high "comfortable" location for them to perch. The only time it should be a concern is if they happen to show other symptoms (ex; being lethargic). If you're still worried about your feather buddy, stop by their vet and get a check up.
How long does a baby parakeet take to turn into an adult parakeet?
About 3 weeks untill it grows feathers. 3-6 monthes for it to fully grow and mature, but it usually does not mate untill it is at least 1 year in age.
How Do I Get My Parakeets To Go Inside Their Nesting Box?
Do not force them they can do it there self when they want to
How do you teach parakeets to talk?
U have to let it atleast let u put ur finger an inch from it but dont go fast ull freak it out it will fly wildly the first 10times then slide ur fing under the talens or claws and it should jump on ur finger.
for the talking you talk constantly and say the same word over and over slowly. they will talk quietly and quickly. Also make sure you have one parakeet and no toys with mirrors or just plain mirrors or it will spend all it's time talking in bird to its "buddy" and not to you. (they also like words with the sounds of "k" and "t" in then as they are much easier to pronounce for a bird. plain old hello is too hard.)
How do you know if a parakeet is male or female?
It actually depends on what specific bird is meant by "parakeet".
The term "parakeet" is a generalised term to cover numerous species of smaller, long-tailed parrots. The word tends to be used in countries outside of the birds' native lands. For example, the term "parakeet" is never used in Australia to refer to budgies, lorikeets or cockatiels, yet these birds are commonly known as "parakeets" overseas.
'Parakeet' also tends to be a commonly mistaken name for budgerigars, the smallest of the parrot species.
If referring to budgerigars, the top of the bird's beak, called the cere, turns blue on mature males. The female has a pale cere which turns brown during breeding season.
If referring to cockatiels, males tend to have brighter cheek patches than females. Despite common belief, stripes and patterns on the tail feathers are no indication whether the bird is male or female.
If referring to lorikeets or other small parrots, the male and female cannot be told apart except by an avian specialist who can measure the width of the pelvic bones. As this is not necessarily an accurate measure, DNA testing or surgical sexing is the only certain method - but rather extreme.
One of your parakeets is bobbing his head but both are males what does this mean?
Could be that the one bobbing its head is a baby and the bird is begging for food from the other bird.
What to give my budgie to breed?
Perhaps a budgie of the opposite sex, a good diet, plenty of water, and a cage that is large enough for freedom of movement.
Do male parakeets mate with their kids?

Your female parakeet is fat and sitting on the bottom is she laying a egg?
Usually when they sit on the bottom they are sick. If she's "fat" she may not be getting the right food or enough exercise. She might have a serious respiratory illness. Maybe she just looks fat because her feathers are all fluffed up. If she's laying an egg you can pick her up and feel it underneath by her tail. Sometimes birds get "egg bound" and need help passing an egg. Normally a bird lays an egg in the place she's chosen to keep it safe. She'll go back there when it's time to lay the next one. When she's done with that batch or "clutch" of eggs she'll start to sit on them. Usually there needs to be a male around to get her working on eggs in the first place. Birds should always be loved and fed well but when they lay they need extra protein. If you have a bird that is laying eggs, fertile or not, they need extra protein. Do more research on line and make sure she gets what she needs.
How do you dispose off your dead parakeet?
You can make a little coffin for it and surround it with decorative stuff like flowers, and painting the coffin and much more stuff, Also put the coffin in a secluded place where you know other people like younger children wont be. Make sure its a nice peaceful, safe place. You can also half bury the coffin so hard winds wont blow it away you can cover the coffin with grass and stuff to make sure it partially hidden. =) If you dont truely love your parakeet then i guess u could just wrap it in some toilet paper and dig a hole and put it in there, but im guessing most of all of you love your parakeets and im guessing most of you are wondering what to make the coffin out of. I would use card board or whatever else you would think would be hard enough to use as a coffin. I hope this works out for you! (and if you want you can join all you friends to help out and when your finished you can have a mini funeral for the parakeet)
If you clip a parakeets wings will they ever fly?
