I had a Halloween party and we did a pinata, wraped each other in TP like a mummy, and everyone just wore a costume and my little siblings judged the costume contest (so they didn't feel left out and bug me). Then we just all danced to 'Halloween music' (ghostbusters, etc) and hung out. We didn't have to many decorations but we had a million balloons so popping them or playing vollyball with them was a good icebreaker. We made a lot of cupcakes and just left them out so we wouldn't have to all sit down with my mom and be all awkward.
Depends what kind of a "debut" you're talking about, ie: a debut album, the debut of a play, etc.

It really depends on what the hostess/guests are in to but a couple of good ones are the old standby Truth or Dare. It can be brought into the modern era by using Truth or Dare Jenga or www.tordol.com. You may want to set up the game yourself as the adult because it is for all ages including adult questions that could be inappropriate for younger teens but you can set it up to not show those questions. They actually even have a "Classic Slumber Party" option that shows only G-PG 13 rated questions and is made for an all female group. The site states in part... What should a 9 year old girl party look like?
Sleepovers are always a great idea for birthday. Invite only closest friends and make sure there is not to many because it would be too crowded. Pick loads of games you can play and rent loads of girly dvds. Make sure you have lots and lots of snacks and soda's to last all night because there is not much hope of any of them going to sleep. Pizza is great or maybe Chinese or just a simple mcdonalds etc.., (junk food is the best since everbody would love it!)
Other ideas are you can have a spa day or pamper party! This is best if your a teenager. You can get all of your friends to bring straighteners, curling iron, make-up, nail varnish, etc... Or if you want you can hire a proffessional to come to your house and do there make-up and stuff for them. They can even swap clothes and do a mini fashion show!
If you/she are/is more of the outdoor-sy type and more adventurous then if the weather is appropriate why not camp out your backyard! You can have a tent and a couples of your friends over. And if your backyard is big enough then you can have a little camp fire (make sure there is adult supervision) and sit around it toasting marsh mallows.
Also if you are more adventurous why not go rock climbing, paintballing, kyacking, or anything that you want!
If you are having a sleepover or anything a great game is pass the parcel! If your/she's older it seems a bit childish but you can make it a bit more grown up by every layer they take off theres a truth or dare. It is great fun and I am 13 and I enjoyed it!

When do you send out invites for kids party?
Usually about two weeks in advance. Some times more if it is around a hoilday.
Two weeks might be a little short notice for some people. It is a good idea to touch base with friends about the date ahead of time. Make sure that you rent a hall & line up entertainment before sending out your invitations (& that should be done months ahead of time).
