Does penicillin cure athletes feet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Penicillin has no effect on the fungus that causes athletes foot. Penicillin itself is derived from a fungus. Penicillin is anti-bacterial, it affects bacteria. Penicillin may be used if the athletes foot is serious enough to cause a bacterial infection. Anti-bacterials can cause athletes foot and other fungal infections to worsen by killing the "good" bacteria we all have on our skin and in our bodies. Some of those bacteria feed on fungi.

Can you use fish penicillin for your dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Antibiotics actually cause yeast infections. In addition to destroying the bad bacteria that makes a dog (or person) sick, antibiotics also destroy the good bacteria that the body needs to stay healthy. Also, antibiotics only work on bacteria, and a yeast infection is caused by a fungus. So what your dog needs is an anti-fungal medicine, which you can get from your vet. An antibiotic will be absolutely useless on a yeast infection, and will only make it worse. When taking antibiotics, you can give your dog yogurt, but not frozen yogurt, because it has no active cultures (acidophilus). You can also give your dog acidophilus pills while its on antibiotics to prevent yeast infections, but check with your vet for the amount to give your dog. The tablets are available at any drug store, and you don't need a prescription. These same measures also apply to people.

What difficulty did Alexander Fleming which caused him to stop working on penicillin?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fleming had found penicillin in bread mold in the year 1928. He squeezed the mold 'juice' out of the bread mold, but it spoiled, even in the refrigerator before he could do anything with it. He was unable to prove that penicillin was an antibiotic, and finally gave up in the year 1934. Others later figured out how to isolate penicillin and make it into a medical form.

Cats tolerate penicillin, but the dosage varies from that humans take. Please take this animal to the vet -- even if you do get the right dosage of penicillin, and even if the cat isn't allergic, I presume from your question you're not able to suture the wound. Please get a vet invovled in this.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

amoxicilin is a semi-synthetic form of penicillin. After

the penicillin is extracted, some of it is converted to amoxicillin. penicillin is primarily for gram+

bacteria while amoxicillin is effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.Amoxicillin is better absorbed than penicillin as it can withstand the acidity of stomach juice better than penicillin releasing more antybiotics in to blood stream.

How long a penicillin shot stays in the system?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It can happen on the first dose; it can happen on the last dose, or anywhere in between. If you experience itchiness and a rash, swelling of the face/tongue/lips, stop taking it immediately, contact your doctor and take Benadryl. If you are swelling enough that you are unable to breathe, your throat is closing in (or wheezing like asthma), or you feel faint - get to the ER/call an ambulance.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a gum infection in the gum surrounding my lower right wisdom tooth, caused by the top wisdom tooth pushing against it. I began feeling discomfort which turned into pain severe enough for me to seek treatment 4 days ago. I began taking penicillin 72 hours ago, and had the top wisdom tooth removed 48 hours ago. So far, I'm in no pain relief. I'm returning to the oral surgeon tomorrow. My pain gets worse when I lay down, so sleeping is near impossible. I also cannot chew, and swallowing is very difficult.
