Veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor wore number 5 with the Penguins in the 2007-08 season. Sydor signed with Pittsburgh on July 1, 2007. He has also been a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Dallas Stars (2 stints). Sydor had roles in helping the 1999 Stars and 2004 Lightning capture Stanley Cups.

Yes, as of March 30, 2011, Sidney Crosby is still sidelined from his injury. Since sustaining a mild concussion during the Winter Classic when he received a blind-side hit, he was injured again on January 5, 2011 when his head hit the glass in a game against Tampa Bay. He is was put on injured reserve on January 6, 2011 and has not played in any game or participated in Penguins practices since. On March 30, 2011, he was cleared to return for no-contact practice, but the timetable for his full return is still unclear.

In early 1993, Lemieux was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He underwent treatments for the cancer but returned successfully to the NHL. To this point in time the cancer has not returned.

He just lost a few as of March 30th 2013 Penguins Islanders game. Took a deflected puck to the mouth resulting in a broken jaw and some missingchick-lets.

For all three of Pittsburgh's teams, Black and Gold are the base colors. The Steelers also have accents of white, gray, blue, and red. The Pirates have use gray for allternate color uniforms and the Penguins use a white and blue throwback jersey from time to time.
