How do you open 1987 plymoth reliant tailgate?

To open the tailgate you have to use the key in the tailgate lock. If it is like mine, it does not always release immediately and you just need to push on the tailgate while the key is turned. You should be able to hear the latch release and then you just lift the tailgate up. If the shock absorbers for it are worn out it will be a slow hard lift to get it to open completely.

Where is the throttle sensor on a 88 Plymouth Reliant?

ok, pop the hood on that sucker. stand right in the center of the car.

close to the front of the car you will see this electric fan apparatus, on the far side of the radiator(from you) take your right hand and run it along the top of this fan till you reach the far right edge of it, take your hand and go like 2 inches forward and straight down should be the little apparatus aptly labeled Speed Sensor

so basically of the right corner of the electric fan behing the radiato

given the history of the car its probably covered in like an 16th inch layer of grease and you have to wipe it off

if your throttle is sticking (as it often did in mine) the apparatus in which you seek is not to blame... take off that ridiculously huge air filter (3 plastic screws) and take the whole thing(lid, airfilter and the part that holds the airfilter up) and set it off to the right( should still be attached to a hose) and look on the right side of your carb.(the thing you just took your airfliter off of) and check for the notorious broken throttle cable of reliants.

if sticking throttle cable isn't your problem, then best o luck

The fuel pump relay on a 1986 Plymouth Reliant is typically located in the engine compartment, near the battery or the firewall. To access it, you may need to consult the vehicle's service manual for specific diagrams and details.

Timing marks on an 1988 Plymouth reliant 2.2?

When the engineers designed the 2.2 they forgot to put a timing mark on the front of the engine, so they designed a window in the top of the auto trans bell housing

so one could look at the spinning torque converter, and see the timing mark.

Naturally a timing light would be helpful, but you can align it if you turn the crank

with a socket wrench on center bolt on the pulley which drives the water pump/alternator belt.

They designed the flex plate (connects engine crankshaft to torque converter)

so that 4 bolts couple it to the T converter. The 4 bolts are not 90degrees apart from one another assuring that if one swaps the motor, there is only one way to

get the bolt up pattern right. Ben there & dunit!
