"Stakes" in poker basically means the amount of money each player starts with when he comes into the game.. some rules don't allow players to add money from their pocket to their initial stakes, while other do - which is the case in open stakes poker, wherein a player can buy chips anytime during the game..
a hand is 'une main' in French. a nice poker hand is 'une belle main' or 'une belle donne'
It is 1 in 17. Here's why:
There are 52 cards in a deck, 13 different value cards (A, 2, 3, etc.), and two cards are dealt. We're finding the odds of getting any pocket pair, not just one. This means that the first card dealt can be any value. The second card has to repeat the value of the first card. For example, the first card dealt is a 10, and now the second card has to be a 10. After the first 10 is dealt, there are 51 cards left in the deck, and 3 different 10's. Therefore, 3 over 51 simplifies to 1 over 17.
The Royal Flush refers to the set of five cards that is from the same suit which includes an ace, king, queen, jack and ten. A straight flush is when five cards in numerical order and belongs to the same suit. Here the sequential order of the cards can be anything but the highest order.
If you don't know how to play or worse, if you think you know how to play, then you should start by reading the excellent instructional books published by "2 plus 2" publishing. Then start playing in casinos . If you're too far from casinos with poker rooms then find some friendly private games. Under no circumstances should you deposit one red cent into any on-line poker sites. Although David Sklansky is an expert poker player who writes some of the best instructional poker books around, he should not be believed when he says that on-line poker sites are a safe place to play real poker. They are not. All of the big name poker players who endorse on-line poker sites make more money from lending their names to these sites than they ever did from actually playing poker. On-line poker offers " an exciting "poker like" playing experience. It is not real poker. It is a carnival ride that seems like poker but is actually fixed so that after a wild ride of several weeks or months, a server controled "bot" player will siphon off all of your money. Dont be a sucker. Play live ONLY. Or be prepared to lose all of your money.
well yes and no. you need to know when someone is bluffing you. you got to have skill to know when to call it. but the cards you get is the luck part.
^....I've heard this before....^
The only way to consistenly win is to play against an entire table of people who don't understand the advantage points. When more people at the table know the advantage points the odds for winning become less and less.
In the casino it is all luck and the odds are against you, and just about everyone playing understands the advantage points. Reason being that; the pot can never be worth the risk due to the rake and other sorts of bonus takes. It doesn't matter if you can read the other person or not cause you can't control the next card which changes the entire universe of the hands in play.(thus making your read usless)
In a house game (with everyone knowing the advantage points), it is all luck with even odds.
Another way to consistanly win is to get good at cheating.
Answer:
All depend on the player. For professional players it's the game of luck, but how about new player :)...hard to say...
In standard poker games, like Texas Hold'em and Omaha, each player is typically dealt two private cards (hole cards) and then a combination of community cards is used to make the best possible hand. This results in a 5-card hand for each player.
The Joker card originated in a card game called Euchre in the 1860s. It was a trump card originally referred to as the "Best Bower" card. It has since been adopted as a replacement card for damaged or missing cards as well as a wild card in certain games.

No.
In case of a tie, the pair of the highest rank wins. If ranks are tied, then the hand with the highest non-paired card wins. If that card is also tied, then the hand with the next-highest non-paired card wins, and so on.
Examples:
Hand 1: AAK42, Hand 2: 66543. Hand 1 wins, since A is higher rank than 6.
Hand 1: KKQ42, Hand 2: KKJ98. Both players have a pair of Ks. Hand 1 wins, since Q is higher rank than J.
Hand 1: KKQ42, Hand 2: KKQJ2. Both players have a pair of Ks, Both players have a Q. Hand 2 wins since J is higher rank than 4.
This depends on what game you are playing. Here are some of the common ones:
Texas Hold'em: 2 hole cards, 3 on flop, 1 river, 1 turn = 7 cards
Omaha Hold'em: 4 hole cards, 3 flop, 1 river, 1 turn = 9 cards
Seven Card Stud: 2down1up, 1up, 1up, 1up, 1down = 7 cards
Five card Stud: 1down 1up, 1up, 1up 1up = 5 cards
Chinese Poker: 13 cards (all at once)
5-Card Draw: 5 cards + draw of up to 5 = 5 - 10 cards
The card count remains the same for the lowball and hi-lo split variants of the games.
A King is a King and a 10 is a 10.
The King's value of 10 is used in Blackjack not in poker. You cannot use a King in place of a 10 for a straight in poker.

Part poker is played very much the same way as texas holdem. You have to have a big round table with many friends to play. Six people is probably best. Everyone gets dealt cards and you put some money in the ante. Whoever makes the highest hand wins the pot.
The odds of being dealt AK in Texas Hold'em is computed as follows:
All of the following will beat two pair.
No.
The pair of kings is only one pair. No matter how low your 2 pair is (for instance fours & fives) it can't be beat by one pair.
In West Virginia, one must at least be 21 years of age to be able to gamble. This is applicable for all gaming slots and tables.
This depends on the house rules. By standard rules the spades royal flush does not beat the hearts royal flush, as they have an equal value.
However some house rules state that in case of an equal hand, the suit decides the winner, in which case the spades are always higher then hearts.
