How do chemical spills affect plants?

The impact depends on what has been spilled and how much was spilled, ranging from simple erosion caused by large amounts of water, to long-term poisoning from mixes containing arsenic or acids, to items that will dilute in time, such as lime or alkaline. Commercial weed-killers can cause dead zones where tanks or barrels of the product stood for long periods of time. We had a permanent circle in our backyard (former farmland) for about 10 years until we got the soil mixed with enough compost to dilute what was making the plants weak. Now you cannot see the circle, but before you could see it sharply defined any time the grass got a little dry.

Which of these is most afftected by acid rain?

The Northeastern section of the United States where acid rain is caused by high numbers of factories and power plants is one affected area. Also in that same region, the Southeastern section of Canada is affected and the main cause is factories in the Toronto-Hamilton area. Central Europe and Scandanavia (Sweden, Norway and Finland) are also affected, here being the British and other European factories doing the damage. One more main area that is affected is parts of Asia, specifically India and China, where acid rain is caused by large numbers of factories.

How do pollutants from the land get into estuaries?

It is because throw trash and materials and dump chemicals, that can really hurt and kill sea life.

So unless you want to be a sea killer than don't pollute the ocean!

How does oil and water interact?

They will separate because of their differing densities. Oil is more dense than water, so it will remain above the water. Think about an oil spill in the ocean; the oil floats on the water. Or think about the salad dressing in an Italian restaurant, I think its oil and vinegar. Same principle. That's why you have to shake it before you use it.

RE: Oil floats on water because it is less dense, not more dense.

Photos of human activities and over population affect the environment and the earth?

Human activities such as deforestation, industrial pollution, and urban sprawl contribute to environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. Overpopulation exacerbates these issues by putting pressure on resources such as water, land, and energy. To mitigate these impacts, sustainable practices and population control measures are necessary to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future for all species.

Did global warming cause the Haiti earthquake?

It is impossible to say whether global warming did or did not contribute to the strength of Hurricane Katrina. Hurricanes of that strength have been hitting the Gulf Coast far longer than humans have been there to witness them. However, the effects of Katrina on New Orleans and other areas were worse than they could have been due to environmental issues such as destruction of wetlands on the Mississippi Delta, and obviously with some of the factors that lead to New Orleans being below sea level with Lake Ponchartrain on the other side of it.

What does the documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle say about global warming?

This 2007 documentary suggested that climate scientists were influenced by funding and politics. It also suggested that there was no scientific consensus that humans were causing global warming.

Do you realize global warming is a myth?

The overwhelming consensus among climate scientists is that global warming is real and primarily caused by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels. The evidence for climate change is supported by data from temperature records, melting ice caps, and shifting weather patterns. It is important to rely on scientific evidence and expert consensus when evaluating issues like global warming.

Does climategate prove that there is no global warming?

No. Global warming is certainly happening. Certain people who don't want to believe this seized on some emails and tried to beat them up into a story. This is where the term 'Climategate' came from. Several inquiries found there was nothing sinister in the emails.

Why is Global warming not happening?

personally i don't believe in it climate change is normal in the 1800's there was barely any snow.

A:Global warming is happening. The global mean average temperature has risen approximately 1.33°F (0.74°C) over the past 100 years. This is confirmed by many independent lines of evidence. Global warming is further indicated by trends such as ice sheet melting and rising sea level, measurable increase in the severity of weather, changes in the behavior of migratory species, etc.

Why must you be careful about the number of trees you cut down around the world?

Trees are the only things that will remove large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store the carbon. Some trees live for hundreds of years. When you cut down trees there should always be a program of reforestation so that the trees are sustainable.

What activity has caused Kenya to experience land degradation?

Deforestation as a result of agriculture, logging, and charcoal production are significant activities causing land degradation in Kenya. This leads to soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and reduced land productivity, posing serious environmental and economic challenges for the country.

Why do public disagree with global warming?

Some people disagree with the idea of global warming because they think this is just a "scientist scam." But our world is the evident of global warming. Many people already died because of frequent floods, earthquakes and tsunami incidents caused by this environmental depletion.

_________________________________________________________________

Earthquakes have nothing to do with global warming, nor any deaths worldwide. The current belief is that since the high temps of 1938, we have managed to gain 0.1 degree. Tsunami's, earthquakes and floods are all bad things, but no science based group blames them on global warming. As a matter of fact, most science based groups state there are positives that would happen should the planet start to warm again.

The concept currently being espoused is predominantly political in nature. Most climate experts believe we could be reaching a tipping point. This is different then having a current issue.

Take note of what people say before you believe them. For example, polar bears are still growing in numbers. If you see some movie or clip saying something else, question their honesty. You will find a great deal of the science community is up in arms about the foolishness being used by politicians to push agendas.

When did the pollution start hurting the earth?

Some of the ozone hole is natural. Some of the depletion of ozone is due to "natural factors". Manmade chemicals seem to be concentrated in regions of low ozone concentration, and these have been otherwise shown to destroy ozone. Man also dumps water vapor high in the atmosphere, and water vapor also destroys ozone. Assessing the damage we have done to the ozone layer will be hard to do without more data. We had a record sized ozone hole (2006) and we have not decreased too much percentage-wise since then (2008). But we simply don't know how much we are responsible for. Does it matter? We are not required to feel guilty. We are stewards. This is our home. We know what we have to do to help Nature repair the damage (and any damage is reversible, hopefully without eliminating Man first).

Why ozone is a pollutant?

Ozone is a pollutant at ground level because it is a key component of smog. It is formed when pollutants from vehicles, industrial plants, and other sources react in the presence of sunlight. High levels of ozone can cause respiratory problems and other health issues, making it harmful to breathe.

How can Compare the movement of energy in the biosphere with the movement of matter through biosphere?

Energy in the biosphere flows through a one-way system, entering as sunlight and being converted into chemical energy through photosynthesis. This energy is then transferred through the food chain as organisms consume each other. In contrast, matter in the biosphere cycles through biogeochemical processes, such as the carbon and nitrogen cycles, where elements are taken up by organisms, recycled, and reused in the ecosystem.

How can noise prevent pollution?

It is possible to limit and prevent a lot of noise pollution. All people can...

  • Rake leaves by hand, don't use a noisy leaf blower.
  • Trim bushes or shrubs by hand, don't use a noisy bush trimmer.
  • Sound proof rooms that might have music conducted in them, like a room with a piano or if someone in the house plays drums or guitar or whatever. This can be done simply with curtains, window inserts, carpeting, and closing windows and doors.
  • Don't blast music on the radio or computer or speakers. Be considerate of your own ears and those of other around you.
  • Don't slam doors / car doors, close them easily and with only as much force as needed. (People don't usually think of this, but imagine - how loud is it when you slam your car door? Pretty tolerable. But imagine thousands of people doing so. Now that can start to get loud.
  • Turn off the TV or radio when you aren't actually fully listening to it.
  • Train your dog not to bark so much.
  • Don't yell. Have civil conversations. Call someone or go find them instead of yelling across the street for them, for example.
  • Plant trees and bushes around you house. They help keep the air clean, absorb sound, give privacy, and add nice design and looks to a house.
  • Do noisy things (dishes, hammering, etc.) over or on a rubber mat to reduce noise.
  • Put carpets, rugs, mats, throw rugs, etc. in your house / mats outside.
  • Put fabric window coverings instead of plastic or wooden shades / blinds.
  • Don't rev up a motorcycle or car unless it is actually needed for the drive.
  • Don't beep your car horn "just because", make sure it is a legitimate reason.
Though it is difficult to think of it as a pollutant, noise in excess does cause a lot of damage.

1) A simple measure to cut down on this form of pollution include keeping the volume of the TV and the music system low.

2) Using the horn in your vehicle sparingly, when absolutely necessary will eliminate a lot of noise from our streets.

3) Cutting down the use of loud speakers at public functions will help in maintaining the peace and quiet in a locality.

For our health and happiness, as well as that of our children, it is absolutely essential that the various forms of pollution are limited to the extent possible. By adopting some of the above measures we can contribute towards this noble cause.

What is a major cause of global warming plastic or cutting down trees?

In rhetoric, that is called "begging the question". It means that you already accept that something is true and you are trying to force an answer from another person that would make them agree with you. Either way you answer the question means that you accept that the concept of global warming is true.

Global warming is not proved to be factual and probably exists only as a method to frighten young children into convincing their parents to give the government more control over their private life, money and business.

The earth warms and cools. We have too little data to make a prediction about how man is affecting the climate and what data we do have is now suspect because of bad science.

When I was a kid, we had a ice age scare. And, no, an ice age didn't happen.

How many sewage treatment plants are in delhi?

There are over 20 sewage treatment plants in Delhi that treat wastewater generated in the city before discharging it back into the environment. These plants play a crucial role in managing the sewage and ensuring the environment is protected from water pollution.

Describe three ways carbon dioxide gets into air?

Carbon dioxide can be added to the air by nature or by people and their activities.

Three Natural ways:

  1. Forest fires and Volcanoes
  2. Decomposition
  3. Animal/plant respiration

Three Man-made contributions:

  1. Burning fossil fuels
  2. Clearing forests by burning
  3. Industrial processes

What are the Methods evolved to measure and check environmental degradation?

Some methods used to measure and monitor environmental degradation include remote sensing technologies (e.g., satellite imagery), field surveys and sampling, water and air quality monitoring, biodiversity assessments, and ecosystem modeling. These methods help scientists and policymakers understand the extent of environmental degradation and inform strategies for conservation and sustainable development.

What colour would the grass be if the sky was not blue?

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a joke or not. There's no particular relationship between the color of the sky and the color of the grass. The photosynthetic compound in plants does need to absorb a color that the sky does not, but violet or red would work approximately as well as green, and there are in fact types of algae that use compounds other than chlorophyll and which are not green.

Why is plastic bad?

Plastics are petroleum based products from oil. They can't break down easily which mean they take a very long time to break down, making disposing difficult. However recycling is good and can mean plastics can be reused as new things such as packaging materials.

hope this helps!
