  • air pollution from gas or fuel oil heating systems - direct
  • lawn and garden chemical runoff - direct

The biggest source of pollution in the world is?

The biggest man-made source of pollution in the world is fossil fuel burning. Some argue that volcanoes produce even more pollution.

Answer:

The "biggest source" of pollution is a difficult term to deine as some pollution (methane and carbon dioxide from digestion and decomposition) are accepted as "normal" as are examples like silt released to rivers through erosion, ozone down-washed from the upper atmosphere, and fecal matter from animals and humans. (Humans alone produce about 7 million tones of fecal matter a day). One also must consider the time frame. In the past volcanoes and super volcanoes have erupted covering millions of square miles with thick layers of ash. A very significant change in Earth's atmosphere about 2.4 billion years ago added a pollutant (oxygen) which almost wiped out the original life forms.

There is also a problem in that "biggest" isn't the same as "most significant" in the same way that a pound of coal isn't as good a gift as a quarter of an ounce of diamonds although it is a bigger gift of carbon.

By volume man made CO2 emissions are certainly high on the list and derive almost equally from Transportation, Industry and Electrical generation. Fecal matter as it affects human drinking water is lower but still significant.

Water from nearby rivers or lakes is usually used to cool down the reactors in nuclear power plants The release of this heated water back into the river or lake would most likely result in what?

Such cooling water is not used to cool down the reactors, it is used to cool and condense the steam outlet of the steam turbines, in fact it just passes through tubes inside the condenser and then back to the river or lake, or in some plants with cooling towers it passes through the cooling towers before going through the condenser and then back to the river or lake. The water does not come into contact with any radioactivity, but is warmed slightly by heat exchange in the condenser, before returning to the river or lake. So the only effect on the river or lake is to have water returned at a slightly higher temperature than the main body of water. Water taken from a river or lake would have far too many impurities (dissolved solids and organic matter) to be used in the primary or secondary cooling circuits of the reactor, and would go through a demineralising plant before being used for those circuits.

There are various forms of pollution in Ireland. One of the main ones has been the pollution of water, which has been a regular problem, resulting in fish kills and making water unsafe to drink in some parts for short periods. Write a paragraph about how to prevent air pollution?

Pollution is a big problem that is slowly destroying the world that we live in. It is vital for every individual to do what he or she can to clean up the environment. Whether it is in the home or on a government level, every person is important and has the ability to make a difference and help stop pollution.

The first step you can take to stop pollution is to not litter. Throw the garbage into a trashcan instead of onto the sidewalk or the side of a road. Carry around a small bag with you and if you see a piece of litter on the ground while you are on a walk, pick it up and toss it out.

If you notice that there are not many garbage cans on the street in your town, write a letter to your local government asking them to put out more in order to help stop pollution. Many people go on walks, especially during summer months, and would like to be able to have access to a garbage can if they need one. Instead of people tossing the litter onto the street, they may be more likely to put it in a garbage can if there was one around.

Is a gas leak harmful?

yes , it is very deadly to you and the people around you.

ANSWER:Yes and no. If you inhale the gas for a long period of time it can make you become lacksidasical. or sleepy and you can die from the methane which replaces the oxygen in your blood stream. It is also very explosive and people have been burned or have died from that . If you have a gas leak in your area, I doubt that would harm you to any degree.
