How do you replace a Porsche 944 radio?
like any other car take out the old one, there is small holes on each corner of the front plate you push those in and it comes out, then disconnected. unless there is the right harness on the radio you are putting in you must cat the wires and connect them together, u can use a double A battery to determine which speakers are located where. Remember to use good Isulating method so that you dont cause a shortcut. good luck

Under the car, toward the driver's side (on the LHD models) mounted to the bell housing.
It bolts on with two 17mm.
Usually, one can be taken out with a ratchet and socket, but the other might need a wrench due to clearance.
The wiring is held on via lugs with 8mm, 10mm, 13mm nuts. Typically, with a Porsche, if you have 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, and 19mm tools, you can do just about everything. I think the crank bolt is 23mm, and the air bleed for the cooling system is 12mm, so there are a few exceptions.
Replacing the starter is a sub-20 minute job - I've done it in less than 5 minutes at a track. Replacing a headlight bulb may be slightly more difficult. In other words, if you are mechanically inclined at all, do NOT pay someone to do this. If you have a hard time following the directions on the back of a frozen dinner, this might be too much for you.
Also note that the clutch slave cylinder is just above the starter, so it's not much more difficult to do. You just need a helper to pump the clutch and bleed it. If you can bleed brakes, and replace the starter, you can replace your clutch master and slave cylinders.
For major engine repairs, or timing belt replacement, a flywheel lock can be purchased for about $25 USD that will keep the engine from moving by locking into the starter teeth on the flywheel. This lock in installed by removing the starter and bolting the lock in in place of the starter.
IMPORTANT - DISCONNECT THE GROUND WIRE FROM THE BATTERY BEFORE REPLACING THE STARTER, OR REALLY ANYTHING ELECTRICAL. BUT ESPECIALLY THE STARTER. OTHERWISE SPARKS *WILL* FLY!

Did all Porsche 944 come with a sunroof?
The lux model had it as standard, the turbo didnt have it as it reduced chassis stiffness too much. So Porsche say.
It is likely that you have a bad camshaft and/or crankshaft reference sensor. Without the proper signal from both sensors, the computer will not power up the DME relay which results in no power to the ignition coil or the fuel pump relay. The two sensors are identical and are available from Paragon Products.
The throwout bearing in your clutch is the likely culprit here. Your clutch may be shot in addition, but you are probably looking at a costly fix here.

Why Porsche 944 overheating in traffic okay on open road?
Hello. Mine had the same problem after replacing the waterpump. The thermostat is fitted in the pump manifold, with some shims. I found it strange that there was no hole in the thermostat valve, so i drilled one myself (2-2.5 mm). This helps air to escape and starts a small flow, allows the hot coolant to reach the thermostat. This prevents opening al at once when the coolant is already heated in the engine block. On top of the head there's a coolant manifold with a bolt in it. This is where you have to bleed the air, there might be air in the system that can't get out. During the bleeding, the heater must be set at highest temperature. The heater radiator flows, and if there are bubbles in it they will get out. The shims in the pump are important too. If the thermostat is not in the right position it won't work properly. If the air keeps coming back in the system, it might be a leaking head gasket. In my case something was wrong with the new pump and new thermostat, after the drilling and mounting differently with the shims my problem was solved. If air is not the problem try replacing the thermostat, it's fairly easy and cheap.

How do you stop exhaust fumes entering the cabin of a Porsche 944 when the windows are open?
Your rear hatch probably needs adjusted or you need a new hatch seal. This happened to me after I painted my car. If this was the case, the fumes would be there all the time. I 'm led to believe that, in the 944, when you open a window or the sunroof, it creates a differential pressure in the cabin. This then tries to 'suck' hot engine air (not exhaust) through the base of the gear lever. If the gaiter is well sealed, it just gets very hot. Any gaps, and the hot engine air comes in. Brilliant - open a window (at speed) and it gets hot and/or smelly. The real question is - how do we stop it? I'm no engineer but I should have thought it possible to make an air deflector to fit under the gear lever. demonpedro
