Why does the study on swine flu say poorer countries would be affected the most by the pandemic?
There are multiple reasons. Some of those are:
Disadvantaged countries usually have contaminated water supplies and hygiene is always an issue. This makes it much more likely that the virus will be passed from person to person without hand washing and without cleaning of surfaces in public places.
In addition, the public is likely malnourished which makes recovery from the flu slower and the immune system weaker and less able to fight infections.
IF schools are available, the students are usually over crowded and more likely to pass communicable diseases to each other. Schools often have no available water or supplies for hygiene.
Doctors are few and far between, so there are usually no vaccinations and/or no education to help the people understand why vaccines are important, no medicines to prevent or treat the flu and complications get to critical stages before they are able to be addressed by health care professionals, IF that is available at all to these poverty stricken populations. The people are also more likely to have underlying diseases and health problems that make complications of the flu more likely. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is rampant in many of the stricken countries which puts all of those in great peril if they get infections since HIV/AIDS means there is ineffective immune function.
These are only a few of the problems of health maintenance and infectious disease in 3rd World Nations.
How poverty can be eradicate by food industry?
Poverty will not be eradicated by feeding the poor. It is doubtful that poverty can be eradicated. More than 2,000 years ago a man by the name of Jesus admonished his apostles when they took him to task for allowing the woman Mary to spread expensive oils on his feet, arguing that those oils could be sold to help the poor. Jesus responded by saying:
"The poor you have with you always, I am only here for a short time. Let the womans worship me."
Feeding the poor from food grown and harvested by someone other than the poor does only soothes the ache of hunger and is a temporary solution to an age old problem. As the saying goes, you can give a man a fish and feed him for the day or you can teach that man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. The food industry in many countries across the world has made tremendous efforts in feeding the poor and yet the poor are still here, waiting for more food. Conversely, there are many who have struggled in poverty but persevered and rose up out of poverty to gain access to a comfortable living and some even rose up to true and genuine wealth. In the end, poverty can only be eradicated on an individual basis by those stricken with it. To rise up and be more than who we are, rich or poor, is a noble and necessary goal if we are ever to reach a point where everyone can flourish and prosper.

How are material poverty and poverty of the heart related to each other?
"One does not live by bread alone" (Luke 4:4) Assuming this question is part of the Catholic teaching... Jesus told others to embrace the poverty they are born into. The wealthy have the special obligation to assist the poor as if they would assist Jesus. We do not achieve salvation by material wealth; however, it is necessary for us to be truly in communion with God. Jesus calls us to be unattached to material wealth, so we don't let it compromise our salvation.

How can you calculate headcount index?
Take the amount of families below the poverty line and multiply it by how many people are in those families as the headcount index uses individuals not entire families to calculate to the index. Once you get the amount of individuals living in poverty you divide it by the total population.
Ex: 2000 Families of 2 have an income less than the poverty line.
4000 Families of 2 have an income over the poverty line.
2000 Families of 4 have an income less than poverty line.
4000 Families of 4 have an income over the poverty line.
First the number of individuals in poverty:
(2000 * 2) + (2000 * 4) =
(4000) + (8000) = 12,000
Then find the total population
(2000 * 2) + ( 4000 * 2) + (2000 * 4) + (4000 *4) = 36,000
12,000 / 36,000 = 33.33%
So the headcount here would show us that 1/3 of the total population is in poverty.

There would be a number of factors that played into his choice.
As a young man of 19, he was a stone cutter in Barry Docks, Wales, where he saw the children working in the mines. He married his second wife, Amelia, in 1905. She had lived since childhood in America and had been recently employed in a carpet mill. As a co-founder of the Socialist Party of America, he would also have known Robert Hunter, the author of Poverty. This book was widely criticized as having exaggerated the number of poor in New York. Hunter had been affected by the poverty in the 1890's depression.
Spargo meticulously researched the level of poverty and wrote The Bitter Cry of the Children to defend Hunter's work.
