Will gives the dog to Trobar, the gigantic and kind outcast in Malcom's clearing. Since Trobar used to have a dog just like her (he actually names her Shadow after it), Will decides that Trobar needs her more and gives her to him. His one condition is that he wants the pick of the liter if she has puppies. That's another story.........

Ok. Rangers Apprentice book ten is called the Emperor of Nihon - Jin and the blurb at the back of book 9 says:

Horace is missing. Months have passed since he was sent on a military mission to the court of the emperor of Nihon - Jin but he has failed to return. Evanlyn is worried, and in company with Will and Alyss, she sets out to discover what has become of their old friend.

They find that Horace has become embroiled in Nihon - Jin politics. He doesn't, book 7 accually comes before the events in book #5 and #6. He achieves the silver oakleaf in book seven and in book #5 Will is already a Ranger

a boy of 15 named will is chosen as a rangers apprentice. his mentor, halt, teaches him to use the weapons of a ranger wich for now is a recurve bow, a saxe knife, and a throwing knife. will soon meets someone who becomes a life long friend,tug the shaggy little pony. as will learns about what a ranger does, he also learns that the evil lord, and former baron, morgorath is back with his wargel army and the nasty kalkara, an evil beast like thing that is nearly impossible to defeat. they have a peircing scream and the only thing that scares them is fire. as the story goes on, will finds himself standing against the kalkara by himself. baron arold and sir rodney are there, but the baron is injured. sir rodney kills one with his sword, leaving will with just one to defeat. he soots it and burns it to death.

Book 2 in Ranger's Apprentice is The Burning Bridge. It has 262 pages.

Gilan is a Ranger. He is in his early twenties when we first encounter him. He was Halts apprentice before Will. He (unusually for a ranger) is very good with a sword.

Yes in fact it had more Romance than I expected when I first started reading the books, but the real romance doesn't come in until the little later books

It was a battle with Morgarath and Will's Dad saved Halt and that was why Will was at Redmont. Will's Dad had told Halt about his wife that was just about to have birth, but when Halt gets to the farmhouse where Will's mom was she was already dead. So Halt delivers Will to Redmont and tells Baron Arald to take care of him.

The book takes place in Araluen, a mythical version of England. But there are several other countries, like Hibernia, Picta, and Skandia. There isn't really a time period, but it is definitely medieval. But it differs from the actual middle ages.

The 9th is coming out in fall 2010 but after emailing Mr Flanagan (address is on his site) he said a total of 12 will come out so much more to come.
