Why do you get a red itchy rash under my wedding ring?

I work in fast food and have never worn a ring to work until I got married. Ever since then, I have noticed that I have a rash under my wedding band. At first, my husband's reaction was that the ring isn't really 14K white gold like the stamp says. It's an eternity band that has holes all around the inside, so I know it's from something getting trapped under/in there. The rash happens either when I wear the ring under the latex gloves we are required to wear, or from the dishwashing soap or sink sanitizer that we use. Whether it's a rash or fungus is unsure, but it does go away when I Band-aid it with triple antibiotic. Either way, it's best to leave the ring at home if you're hands aren't going to be dry at all times. Clean your jewelry often with peroxide or alcohol.

What would cause a red dotted rash that does not itch in a child?

There are two things it could be, the child could have been bitten by an insect or might have a dirty pores. With a bite, try puts some soothing cream on and make sure they dont itch at it. With dirty pores make sure they wash their face with a flannel everyday.

What could cause red spots on face and chest?

Sounds like you are certainly allergic to something and only a dermatologist can tell you. For now, change your soap products, don't use gels/sprays, etc. on your hair. My bet is the soap products you are using. Don't use lotions until you see your dermatologist.

Can too much salt cause a red skin rash?

Yes, both my husband get these rashes that itch from ingesting too much salt. I am not a doctor, but through trial and error, I do this to take the "itchiness" away: I put rubbing alcohol on the rash, then wipe w/pure water, then dry the area, then put noxema and carmex on the skin and avoid wearing anything tight over the skin so the skin can breathe. I also sometimes put talc powder (either plain or for powder for atheletics foot) on top as that seems to dry up the rash. When the rash isn't too bad, I just use the rubbing alcohol and noxema (original version). The salt seems to creep in when we go out to eat and is in just about every half-way instant food. Afterwards, I drink lots of liquids the next day to flush the salt out.

How do you minimize road rash scars that are about a month old?

***HINTS TO MINIMIZE SCARS***

After my accident, I got good info from a nurse, who also happened to work for a plastic surgeon. She told me the following: Keep your scars out of the sun, and if that is difficult, use lots of strong sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays. When scars are in the sun, they will get red, stand out, and never fade! Also- there are creams that I found worked really well. "Scarzone" & "Mederma". They come in a tube, sold at pharmacies. Also pure vitamin oil, made for external use. The nurse said to wait at least a month, even 2 months after getting scars before you use the creams. After scars "set and heal", (1-2 months), you can start using the cream. Put it on everyday, even 2-3 times a day. I alternated between creams; 1 week- Scarzone; Next week- Mederma, then vit. E. Use it faithfully, for at LEAST a month. I used it for 3 months. My scar was on my face and it was nasty. Now, you can hardly see it. It's been 11 months, and I still use creams a few times a week. NOTE: The Mederma is like $22.00 a tube, and Scarzone is under $10.00 a tube. Get both, it's worth it! AND, always wear sunscreen. Hope this helps!

What is a Non specific viral rash?

Rashes sometimes accompany viral infections and fevers, especially in children, and can be an indication that urgent medical examination is needed. Rash can be an early sign of serious infectious disease, both viral and bacterial, such as in bacterial infections with toxic shock syndrome.

Specific viral rashes have names such as chicken pox and rubella (German measles) and are often identified by their characteristic appearance of the rash and other symptoms. However, often the type of rash or other symptoms do not allow that specific a diagnosis to be made. So, the term "non-specific virus" is used to indicate that there have not been laboratory studies or specimens collected to grow (culture) and identify the exact virus causing the symptoms (which have been determined to not likely be characteristic of or typical of known specific viral rashes). These studies are typically not needed or ordered by the physician since the most common viruses to cause rash and cold-like symptoms are treated much the same way even if the specific type of virus involved is known. It is different in the case of bacteria and bacterial infections where the exact organism must be identified to prescribe the proper antibiotic to get rid of the bacteria.

Antibiotics, however, do not work to treat viruses. When no bacteria have been identified and no allergic cause of the rash has been found, then the presumptive working diagnosis is often "non-specific viral infection."

Responding to your addendum to the question on the discussion page asking why contact precautions were given, it is likely that these precautions are to be taken since the specific virus has not been identified, and some viral illnesses that can cause rash can be especially dangerous for children and pregnant women and the developing fetus. German measles, for example can cause harm to the developing baby.

What is a rash on the crease of the legs and under arm and under breast?

It can be caused by friction. The armpits and "knee-pits", for lack of a better term, can easily get sweaty. They rub against each other, skin, fabrics, and material (think sitting in a chair, the back of your knees are on the edge of the chair). Sweat causes more friction. This can irritate the skin, causing it to break out into a redish-pink rash, and sometimes that rash can even be itchy. Try putting a calming lotion on it, wearing looser cotton clothing, and avoid as much rubbing or friction as possible.

Can vinegar in laundry cause a rash?

I just started adding vinegar to the laundry (fabric softener and bleach bins) about three loads ago and now both of my kids (2.5 yrs and 6 mo.) both have slight rashes. I have no idea yet if I should attribute it to the vinegar, but they are otherwise acting healthy so for now I'm blaming it on the vinegar. The vinegar worked great on the laundry however!

What is a red rash on the arms torso and thighs that does not itch and has no accompanying fever?

I doubt you have syphilis but see below. More likely you are experiencing an allergy or contact dermatitis - the soap you wash your clothes or sheets with can affect all the areas you mention.

About Syphilis:

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that is caused by a germ called Treponema pallidum. T. pallidum is a spirochete that spreads from a person with a primary or certain secondary symptoms of syphilis by direct contact, causing the primary lesion at the point of contact.

The primary lesion is a painless indurated sore. It generally only lasts from 1 to 3 weeks. The lesion is usally located at the site of sexual contact, usually the mouth, genitals or rectum of the infected individual. The infected person passes this infection to the mouth, genitals or rectum of their partner only while symptomatic. The lesion may not appear until 3 months after the sexual contact, but usually appears within 10 days.

There is often a period of time after the primary lesion has healed where there are no symptoms. This can last from 0 days to 12 weeks.

Secondary syphilis can have many classic presentations. It can be a rash; several different types of maculopapular rashes may appear anywhwere on the body. A classic symptom is a brownish hyperpigmentation on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands. Skin rashes from syphilis are not contagious. A moist, bumpy cauliflower-like condition called condyloma lata may also appear. This secondary symptom is highly contagious.

Secondary symptoms may last for 8 weeks; rashes may take longer than this to fully resolve.

Syphilis is treated with penicillin; usually 2.4 million units of long acting penicillin injected into a large muscle.

Syphilis is diagnosed with simple blood tests; an RPR (rapid plasma reagin) test detects the level of antibodies to syphilis present in a blood sample by titering the sample and continuing testing. The relative strength of the antibody response can be an indication of the stage of the disease.

RPR tests are confirmed with a direct test for T. Pallidum.

A person diagnosed with syphilis will usually be interviewed by a public health professional for sexual contacts during and immediately before the likely date of infection. The disease is very predictable and given good information on interview a source is likely to be identified as well as potential spreads.

One of the worst outcomes for a case of syphilis is the passing of syphilis from an untreated pregnant woman to her unborn baby. Congenital syphilis infections are treatable but may cause permanent effects prior to birth.

If you feel you may have syphilis; if you know you have been with someone who has syphilis; if you live in an area with high syphilis rates and are sexually active you may want to visit your local public health clinic for a screening test. At the very least you should see a doctor if you are losing sleep over the rash you describe.

Can eating too much fish give you a skin rash?

It seems that it can. I myself get tender pimple-like spots on my cheeks after eating salmon, and have decided that I shall quite eating salmon. It is likely that the fish (most often cultivated) has too many contaminants, and probably depending on what animal feed it has been fed and grown on. Ask around, and you will find many persons have attributed their rash to a marinade or sauce when it is in fact the salmon itself that is the culprit.
