How did Bob Marley get into reggae?
i wanted to know this too! please help in the next 30 mins!
ANSWER: Bob Marley became involved in the music industry at sixteen years of age. At that time Ska(a precursor to Rock Steady and reggae) was the popular sound in Jamaica and Bob recorded his first singles 'Judge Not' and 'one cup of coffee' in 1961-62 utilizing the Ska style. Over the course of the next several years ska would slow in tempo to take on a new sound called Rock Steady which the Wailers(formed in 1963 officially) would also transition in to. Reggae came to be in roughly 1967-68 and was officially termed so by Toots Hibbert in his classic song "Do the reggay". Although 'Toots' coined the term the sound was already developing and the Wailers(Bob, Peter and Bunny as well as 'Family Man and Carlton Barrett) were integral in the origins of what came to be recognized as 'roots Reggae". So, to answer the question you could say that the Wailers went through all of the incarnations(beginning in the sixties anyway) of Jamaican music and played a crucial role in the overall sound and or style of reggae. Bob didn't just fall in to Reggae music he was an important part of its development along with a number of very talented Jamaican musicians and producers.
