Was prescribed Ritalin and 1st 6 days were great but day 7 and 8 made you feel like a zombie so u stopped the Ritalin Now trying adderall it makes you depressed Was the Ritalin trial long enuff?

I've been using 5mg (half a pill) of Ritalin on each day for 3 months.

It cause light dizziness while I am on it. I won't conclude as a problem since

it does what it was design to do. To help me stay focus and make a lot less error.

I am diagnosed as ADHD. I normally make careless mistake at work about 2% of the time

(That's when I have pushed myself to 100%, to the point that I almost have a nervous breakdown.) I have improved to a point where I have only made 1 careless mistake in

3 months in opposed to at least twice a week.

I still have sleeping issues at night with or without it, but while I am on it, I do have sleeping problem. If you are not another ADHD victim, please don't use it. My solution is to take gravol pills before I go to bed and ensure that the first thing I do after I wake up is to take my medication.

I finally got my ADHD report and I am on 18mg Concerta. Same as Ritalin except it releases a small amount at different time of the day.

I wonder if this would improve my sleeping issue

might have needed to adjust your dose with your doc, should give the stuff a month unless it makes you so miserable you just cant stand it before you switch to another med

Does Ritalin or Adderall make you feel overly calm and euphoric rather than focused?

Answer:

On these drugs, you feel highly elevated in whatever the mood you previously had. If you are hanging out it makes you almost stoned and relaxed but if you're at a party it will make you crazy, almost like the feel of having cocaine. Either way it prevents being tired and you feel happy.

The overly calm and euphoric feeling help ease out stress so you can focus better, when you take drugs you are supposed to know the side effects and be cautious. Please see the experience of a user of these drugs, given below.

An Experience:

I was first put on methylphenidate (Ritalin) for ADHD at age 18 (yeah, they finally figure out what's wrong with me after 18 years.) Ritalin and my body didn't really work well together, because I felt a horrible crash. When the crash hit me, I wanted to throw a chair through the wall. I was a monster.

So, my psychiatrist switched me over to Adderall XR and it was a lot better. The first time I took Adderall XR, I did feel a bit more "on the edge," but it works for me. The feelings of edginess went away shortly. So, not really overly calm and euphoric. Plus since it's XR, I don't get a horrible crash.

Can you take Ritalin with methadone?

I have been taking Ritalin for years and I just recently started taking mathadone along with it. I'm not sure if it is medically okay to take the two together but I researched it before I took them and didn't see anything that said it would kill me so I went for it. It seems to be working pretty great! i take the Ritalin in the morning to get up and get going, then in the afternoon I take the methadones to calm down. For me, the mix is working wonders. Good luck!

I have found in my own personal use of 80 mg Methadone/day (Entire right side back pain) and 10mgx3/day of Ritalin, the use of Ritalin has significantly decreased the duration and total effectiveness of the Methadone - causing me to experience more peaks/valleys, minor withdrawl simptoms and has ultimately led to me making the choice between the Ritalin or an increase of my Methadone, which I am not willing to do. I suggest a trial basis (2 week) to see 1) what dose of Ritalin needed and 2) If another, perhaps non-stimulant, ADHD medication might be a better fit. Hope this helps.

Where can I find a doctor willing to prescribe Ritalin without hassle in Sydney?

If you feel you cannot focus on your work, school, tasks at home, etc., and you cannot control symptoms yourself, see a doctor and tell them you're concerned with your ability to focus. They may be willing, on their own, to talk about treatment options such as Ritalin or Adderall. An easier (but more expensive) way to get a prescription for Ritalin is to demonstrate to that doctor that you have ADD or ADHD. A neuropsychological report (about $2500 here in the USA) written by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist is definitive proof of such a condition. You will need to be tested for an array of things, and the testing takes about 5 or 6 hours. Of course, if the tests indicate a different problem or are not conclusive regarding ADD or ADHD, all bets are off.

There are many options and many doctors, but remember: the only sure way to not get a drug prescribed for you is to ask a doctor for it. First build rapport with the doctor and demonstrate that you are a responsible adult, then you may be able to take part in a decision regarding "pharmacological" treatment.

The sale or transfer of any controlled substance to anyone other than for whom it was intended (prescribed) is illegal, and can result in fines and/or jail time. Also, abuse of a controlled substance is illegal as well.

How long does a 5mg Ritalin stay in your system?

the effect lasts about 4 hours and the drug does not leave any residue in your system. It releases instantly, taking about 15-30 mins for the effects to become apparent and then is excreted within about 8 hours. Its noticable effects last about 3-5 hours.

Effects of Ritalin on Kids without ADHD?

Ritalin is essentially speed, it's a drug. If you DON'T have ADHD you shouldn't take it. It can be addictive so you shouldn't give it to your children without consulting a doctor first.

My daughter has been on Ritalin for 8 days now has rash on face which gets puffy antihistamines and hydrocortisone prescribed was ineffective should she stop Ritalin?

I have been taking Ritalin myself for over ten years, so my advice may be helpful to you. I remember it took some time before my dose was 'just right' for me. The dose your daughter was given (in my opinion) was too high for her, thus the skin reaction. Let the prescribing doctor know the dosage was may have been too high and he/she will adjust the med accordingly or possibly try an alternative like Adderall or others. As for the rash, if it still persists, I would try the medication called elocon. This is the only medication that works for my daughter that has eczema. -Which, at times has related rash-like symptoms as you described. Just rub on a small amount to the area in need and it will vanish over-night. (At least that's what it does for my daughter!) I only use it on her 2-3 times a month when she is really bad. Good luck!

I'd concur. I've been taking Ritalin and Adderall, on and off, for over a decade. Try to persevere. Getting started on medication [which drug, dosage, etc.] will be the most difficult period. It's important to talk with your daughter's doctor about any problems she is having and work through them. Also it's important to remember that it can take several months for your daughter's body to acclimate to her medication. This is normal and side-effect will disappear with time.

Are Ritalin and Concerta the same drug?

Concerta and Ritalin both have exactly the same active ingredient -- Methylphenidate.

The difference is that Ritalin is just a standard tablet, whereas concerta is a special capsule which slowly releases methylphenidate over a period of time so the patient does not have to keep taking Ritalin every few hours, concerta releases for up to 12 hours.

--------------------------------

According to the drug description, it peaks from 0 to 5th hour. then it drops down to 0 by the 28th hour. In comparison to the peak, the effect will drop to about 1/4 by the 16th hour.

Theoretically, I personally believe that this may improve the sleeplessness issue from ritaline. Today is my day 1 taking Concerta. If anyone can share some of your experience, please let us know

--------------------------------

My grandson takes concerta for ODD. It absolutely does not address this issue whatsoever. He is worse in my opinion, more combative, does not have an appetite, and cannot go to sleep at a decent hour. Aside from this it causes brain damage and stunts growth with long term use and he will become addicted to amphetamines in teen and adult life. He is skin and bone at the present and looks under nourished.

All these similar diagnosis are merely labels. Drugging children is the wrong direction to take, which is an opinion now shared by many Doctors. There are also law suits going on at the present for deaths that have occurred.

Ive read on the internet and in holland the insurance don't pay the Strattera couse they say theres no prove that Strattera is different than Ritalin but that isn't true so whats the diffence?

Prozac reuptakes serotonin and is in the class of drugs called SSRIs...strattera is an NRI, a norepinephine reuptake inhibitor, so it works on a totally different class of brain chemials.

serotonin is an inhibitory neurotransmitter while norepinephrine is exitatory.

serotonin=sleepy, content, feelin good, satisfied

norepinephrine=able to concentrate, alert, awake, refreshed

Is it safe to mix Wellbutrin and Ritalin Also can Ritalin help with depression?

**WELLBUTRIN & RITALIN***RITILIN is a brand name for METHYLPHENIDATE, [other brands: CONCERTA & METADATE] which is a stimulant generally prescribed for ADHD, SLEEP DISORDERS, SOCIAL DISORDERS & MILD DEPRESSION. WELLBUTRIN is generally prescribed for DEPRESSION, and also for quitting smoking (then it's called ZYBAN), which is the same drug as WELLBUTRIN [generic name BUPROPION. ] I would consult my physician and/or pharmacist before combing the two. <<>>

Consult a doctor before you make any changes to your medication. Asking for medical advice from random unqualified people on the internet regarding possible life threatening drug combinations is much like playing Russian roulette. Seek a professional.

---edit by another user---

As a person who is prescribed both Ritalin and Wellbutrin by a psychiatrist, I can say, in general (but not as a doctor, cause I'm not one), it is ok to mix them. Often people with ADD have co-morbidities, such as depression, and Wellbutrin has been shown to mix well with other drugs because of it's unique (and not very well understood) mechanism. Wellbutrin is also often prescribed alongside Prozac. Just be careful with this mix. Wellbutrin's major side effect is lowering of the seizure threshold. A LOT of other prescription drugs also lower seizure threshold (such as Ritalin). A doctor would be able to clear you and tell you if you have a low seizure threshold and if it's safe. If you aren't going to a doctor, all I can say is that people are routinely prescribed this combo.
