Name two ways plants have adapted to the landscape of the Sahara?
Plants adapt to these harsh conditions in may ways, for instance:
What food is available in the Sahara Desert?
Forms of food are available everywhere. Deserts are not empty for the most part. Insects, animals and plants can be found. There are other options though such as some cactus are edible and many nomads cook and kill live goats for an evening meal. if this is not available they may eat fruit and crops from an oasis if there is one nearby. they also eat a special type of porridge.
How do animals survive in the Sahara desert?
All animals (as well as humans) require three basic things to survive:
Food
Water and
Shelter
With resepct to animals in the desert:
some dig burrows which enable them to keep cool during the day: some of them even plug up the tunnel entrance to help keep out the heat
some dig burrows to enable them to reach the water table under the desert
many creatures do not need to actually drink water, but obtain their moisture needs from the foods or other animals they eat
some have special adaptations, such as the Australian thorny devil, a lizard with sharp spikes which actually channel moisture to its mouth
reptiles are cold-blooded, meaning they actually require the heat to warm them enough so they can move around and feed
many creatures are active at night and in the early morning when it is cooler
some reptiles, amphibians and arthropods remain dormant beneath the ground until the rains come, stimulating their breeding cycle
many desert creatures have pale skin which does not absorb the heat as much
some animals, such as camels, have special protective thick pads, or thick eyelashes that keep out the desert sand
What do nomads wear in the Sahara desert?
The way to dress in the desert is to protect all of your skin from the hot sun and temperatures, so heres what you should wear.
1.a longsleeve and shortsleeve t-shirt. Loose fitted, of course. Make sure the short sleeve is under the long sleeve.
2.Loose fiitted pants, that way they dont stick to your body.
3. A belt to keep the sand from finding a way to seep under you clothes.
4. Desert Boots and long socks.
5. Don't forget to wear a head protection of some sort head protection. Guys, a baseball cap won't cut it in this case. Wear a wide-rimmed hat or head dress of sorts.
6. Sunglasses are a need, so you won't be blinded by the blistering sun.
7. To top it off don't forget to extra measures and wear a high SPF sunscreen on any skin showing.
What countries border the Sahara Desert?
The Sahel is not a desert. It is is the strip of land of semi-arid grasslands, savannas, steppes, and thorn shrublands lying between the Sahara desert in the North and the wooded Sudanian savannas in the south. It stretches across the north of the African continent between the Atlantic Ocean and the Red Sea. The Sahel covers parts of the countries of Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Algeria and Eritrea.

How hot and cold does it get in the Sahara?
Hot
Because it has the characterisitics of a hot desert-
For all territory's on earth there are opportunities.
The problem is often to be ingenious enough to exploit the possible when it seems impossible.
There are not many farmers in Sahara, and it would probably be rather difficult to sell sand. (Some obvious reasons to this.)
We must ask ourselves: What does Sahara Desert actually provide?
It does not provide water. Provide I wrote, not what it doesn't provide.
Ok. I will rephrase the question.
It does provide lack of water.. Much better..
We could actually find methods to provide water in this area and make a job out of this.
Sahara Desert provide a lot of sun and heat too.
This can be used for production of electricity (and it is). Many people work maintaining power plants and desalinization plants in Sahara.
As we all need more power, I am sure there can be more solar power plants built in the Sahara desert.
There is a possibility that we can fertilize areas of the desert in order to actually grow crops, fruits etc there. This could be a choice of job.
It is not easy, but we can find possible job opportunities there.
Are there any cities in the Sahara Desert?

Is the Sahara Desert getting bigger or smaller?
Desertification : This is the nature of our Planet and the result of many factors that operate in a Cyclical and often irreversible Method .
The Expansion or Shrinkage of Deserts is as common ecological event without the assistance of human exploitation as much as it is with it. Humanity does Impact the ecology of the Planet , However, Before anyone runs out and Donates to a "Save the Planet" group :
The major concerns arise with the study of this process and it should be noted that while some deserts expand , others can and may shrink .
As a member of NASA's website, I keep up with such interesting studies of the planet.
Desertification is Primarily the result of Atmospheric Aerosols : Both Natural and Human Introduced ; Desertification is Furthered by Exploitation and Mismanagement of Land Resources.
While Some Deserts may Expand : and the impact on the local Populations may be devastating , it is a Natural Event Primarily caused by Nature : Volcanic Eruptions Assist in Desertification by releasing Particles into the air that are classified as Atmospheric Aerosols that may impact the presence and growth of some pre-existing desert areas..
How far is it from the US to the Sahara Desert?
The distance between the Sahara Desert and the United States is about 6400 kilometers, or about 3978 miles. Specifically, that is the distance from Miami, Florida to Nouadhibou, Mauritania.
What river flows through the Sahara Desert?
The western Sahara has several underground rivers that flow from the Atlas and other mountains, occasionally coming above ground at oases where they provide irrigation for crops.
The Nile River borders portions of the Shara Desert to the East
What land does Sahara desert cover?
The Sahara covers 9,000,000+ square kms. or 3,300,000+ square miles.
How has the Sahara divided Africa?
Look at the map and you'll see why, it covers a large area. That's why you have Mediterranean North Africa, the Sahara and sub-Saharan Africa. Basically, its existence confined ancient empires to the Mediterranean coast, and in general limited contact between the Mediterranean world and the African interior. A certain amount of trade took place, and the Moselm religion was eventually able to cross the desert, but until the 19C it was exceedingly rare for any state to control territories both north and south of the Sahara.
(Look at the map and you'll see why) looking at a map of Africa gives no indication of any division. As a matter of fact looking at the map will only show you the illusionary divisions of states. I say illusionary because those states are not made up in a natural way. (its existence confined ancient empires to the Mediterranean coast) this is another fallacy, the state now known as Israel formally Palestine was once [for lack of a better term] suburb of the so-called state of Egypt which was originally called Kem. Also to see just how far back in history this confinement was breached

(A certain amount of trade took place) it was not an abundance of trade because non-Africans were not permitted within the limits of kam. But many years prior to the fall of kem many different races build communities on the edge of that great nation by the Mediterranean. And many more came to study the sciences of kem. As a matter of fact many of the great European thinkers of the day where educated in Kem.
According to history Pythagoras received his training in Kem,we are also told a thales along with his associates, Anaximander and Anaximenes who were natives of Ionia in Asia minor also got their training there. {Sanford's the Mediterranean world p. 195-205} also check out the book Stolen Legacy : George G.M.James (reading is fundamental !)
(until the 19C it was exceedingly rare for any state to control territories both north and south of the Sahara) for most of its existence kemet or the black land, ( as it was called by its inhabitants) alternated its rule between the North which we now call Egypt and the South which is still known as Ethiopia. and the crown of its chief priest the so called Pharaoh, wore a double headed crown to attest to that fact. Yeah yeah that all is true but it help us to have churches and not mosques.
What are conditions like in the Sahara Desert?
Very hot and humid. The winters are considered cool for desert conditions, with an average temperature of 55° F (13° C). The summers are very hot, with the highest ever recorded temperature at 13° F (58° C). The average rainfall in the subtropical region is approximately 3 inches (76 mm) per year. Precipitation generally falls between December and March, with the maximum rain falling in August and almost no rain at all during May and June. The August storms have been known to cause flash floods which send water to parts of the desert that rarely receive precipitation.
Which is the most used language?
In each country, the most used language is of course the national language. The language spoken by the largest quantity of people in the world is Chinese. The language spoken in the largest quantity of countries is Spanish The language most used for international trade and communications is English
Are there any threats to the Sahara desert?
All of the plants and animals of the Sahara Desert are endangered by people and the environment. Plants tend to be found around the oases, which represent the surfacing of waters from extensive underground aquifers. Trees have been removed, to serve as fuel and fodder. Soil erosion, sediment pollution of the water, and air pollution are the consequences of the lack of tree cover. The oases no longer have the different vegetative layers - ground cover, understory, canopy - that are necessary for plants to survive and flourish. Additionally, development through the building of accommodations and businesses adds to air and water pollution, and contributes to habitat loss.
Who lives in the Sahara Desert?
Millions of people live in the deserts in major cities and towns. Examples:
Cairo, Egypt
Las Vegas, Nevada
El Paso, Texas
Phoenix, Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
Arica, Chile
Many, many more
How much rainfall in a year in the Sahara Desert?
On average between 100mm (in the north) and 150mm in the South of rain per year.

How hot can Sahara desert get?
I have experienced 53 centigrade in the shade in June 1973 at Ougla and below sea level (Algeria). In the sun (unprotected) the temperature can register very much higher.
At night the temperature drops to below freezing. In this region, there is no surface water at all but less than 10 feet below the surface is a high saline water table. There also exists a strata of crushed sea shells.
