In part because of their connection (or perceived connection) to terrorists, the Taliban government of Afghanistan was attacked and deposed, and the Iraq government of Saddam Hussein was overthrown by US forces in 2003. Many enemy combatants from these actions continued to be imprisoned, some convicted by military tribunals as terrorists.
